James Gunn has weighed in on the fan-casting of Alan Ritchson as the DC Universe’s Batman. Gunn doesn’t deny the notion; he continues to play it coy on who’ll portray the franchise’s caped crusader.
With the arrival of Superman, the all-new DC Universe is well underway. Creators James Gunn and Peter Safran are hard at work developing out the franchise, with a number of movies on the way, following characters such as Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Clayface, and so on.
It’s inevitable that Batman will enter the fray at some point. Naturally, this casting is one of the most important there is. Obviously, Matt Reeves has already got his own Batman Universe trudging along, with Robert Pattinson as the hero. That Batman continuity is completely different to Gunn’s DC Universe. There’s already a number of names floating around for the new DC Universe’s caped crusader. Out of everyone, Alan Ritchson seems to be the name floating to the top of people’s wish lists.
Alan Ritchson, 42, is best known for playing Jack Reacher in the popular Prime Video series. But also, he’s got experience playing a DC hero as well, thanks to his brief-but-popular portrayal of Aquaman in The CW’s beloved series Smallville.
Gunn simply cannot avoid being asked about Ritchson as Batman. And so, when asked about the subject by Josh Howowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn responded coyly. “I am a big Alan Ritchson fan, both as an actor and as a guy. Let’s just wait to see what happens,” he said.
