Amid salary disputes, original Avenger Jeremy Renner says he’s “game to do” more Hawkeye stories.
Of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, Hawkeye always stood out as one of the best. The duo of Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), all wrapped up in a festive setting, worked immensely well. For such an unlikely team, they had amazing chemistry. Add to that a supporting cast of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin and Florence Pugh as Yelena, and the show has aged brilliantly.
Hawkeye debuted way back in season 1. While the series hasn’t been cancelled by Disney, progress on a follow-up has been stalled for some time. However, in a recent interview with the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Renner expressed that he’s still “game to do” more instalments. In addition, he addressed talk that doing a story similar to Gareth Evans’ 2011 movie The Raid, featuring Clint’s brother, was somewhat truthful.
“Maybe some of that is true in there, I don’t know,” Renner said. “We got into it, a little bit, sort of story-wise and stuff…Everybody is interested in it. I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, of course, man, I wouldn’t say no to that.’ I think there are a lot of ideas — they’ve still got to figure a lot of things out.”
This comes shortly after Renner called out Marvel for offering him just half of the salary he made from Hawkeye Season 1 to return for Season 2. “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.'” he told High Performance.
“I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made made the first season. So it’s all disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”
All Marvel fans would welcome Renner back as Hawkeye. He was not named in the core cast for Avengers: Doomsday, but that’s not to say he won’t be involved in at least some capacity.
