Marvel Announces Fantastic Four: Grand Design And More

Jason Jeffords Jr.
July 9, 2019
Big Two, News

With 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con just 9 days away, Marvel is pulling no punches when it comes to announcing comics that will X-cite their True Believers.

Beginning with Marvel’s own first family, the Fantastic Four are receiving the Grand Design treatment in the vein of Ed Piskor’s X-Men: Grand Design trilogy. This two part series will be written and drawn by Tom Scioli, best known for his Kirby-esque art in works such as American Barbarian, IDW’S Transformers vs. Gi Joe, and most recently IDW’s Gobots. This announcement came via Marvel through Comicbook.com.

Following is the cover by Tom Scioli, Ed Piskor’s variant cover and a quick synopsis…..

FANTASTIC FOUR: GRAND DESIGN #1 of 2
Written by TOM SCIOLI
Penciled by TOM SCIOLI
Cover by TOM SCIOLI
VARIANT BY ED PISKOR
CORNER BOX VARIANT BY TOM SCIOLI

Because you demanded it! The bestselling GRAND DESIGN franchise continues with Marvel’s First Family! Brought to you by critically-acclaimed cartoonist TOM SCIOLI (GODLAND, TRANSFORMERS VS. GI JOE) in the sole-authorship tradition made famous by ED PISKOR’S X-MEN: GRAND DESIGN trilogy! Join the Watcher and witness how it all began… Plus appearances by the biggest names in Marvel history!: Doctor Doom! Black Panther! Namor! Galactus! Mole Man! The Inhumans!

48 PGS./Rated T …$5.99

With the fantastic news Scioli had this to say,, “Fantastic Four is like the Magna Carta of Marvel, this founding document, so being allowed to get my hands on it is thrilling,” “They’ve given me a tremendous amount of creative freedom to just go for it.”

In another press release, Marvel announced what will make some classic X-Statix fans X-cited about! This info dropping a day before the release of Giant Size X-Statix #1, with a supposed ad debuting the following picture in said comic. This should make fans especially happy with the news, as Peter Milligan’s and Mike Allred’s early 2000’s X-Statix run is a much beloved (but hard to come by) series. Personally, I was a huge fan when I read it (I’ve a Doop tattoo) and this announcement is X-cellent!

Their isn’t much info out on this series other than it will be releasing sometime in 2020.

With this fantastic news dropping only 9 days before 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con it makes me X-cited for the 50th anniversary of the con and what the other companies have to announce!
