Marvel’s ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ Features Iron Fist… But “Not the Iron Fist You Expect”

The first episode of the Black Panther spinoff series Eyes of Wakanda, helmed by Todd Harris, premiered at the Annecy Animation Festival. And now, details are starting to arise!

Marvel Animation has been on a winning streak in recent years. From alternate reality What If…? series, to Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man — there’s been a gluttony of fantastic content. This moves into 2025, too, with Marvel Zombies airing later this year, and of course, Eyes of Wakanda.

In Eyes of Wakanda, the Hatut Zaraze, Wakandan warriors, embark on dangerous quests across the world and time to retrieve lost and stolen vibranium artefacts. The 4-episode anthological series is the first show to air in Phase 6 of the MCU, featuring key connections to the wider franchise. “It’s mostly a spy story,” showrunner Todd Harris said during the show’s panel at Annecy Animation Festival, per Variety. The premiere episode went down well at the festival, with viewers “highlighting the show’s feeling of cultural authenticity.”

Harris also touched on the inclusion of Iron Fist; a character who hasn’t been involved in the MCU up to now. “There will be an Iron Fist in here, and not the Iron Fist you expect,” he revealed. Given that the MCU is introducing a number of characters from the Defenders saga, such as Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal). It seems only a matter of time before Finn Jones’ Iron Fist makes an appearance, but Eyes of Wakanda will most likely not be that project.

In addition, Harris explained that there will be cameos from the Black Panther movies, but they won’t distract from the unique, fresh stories he wants to tell. “It was never my goal to make ‘another one,’ my goal was to make something new.”

Eyes of Wakanda debuts on Disney+ on 6 August 2025. Will you be tuning in? Tell us in the comments down below!
