Mattson Tomlin is keen to develop a Spider-Man movie following an older Peter Parker as a father and husband.
There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and consistent reports that Tobey Maguire might return as Spider-Man for a fourth movie. Of course, these reports have only accelerated after Maguire reprised the role in multiverse Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). And now Mattson Tomlin (who’s currently co-writing The Batman II with Matt Reeves) is ardently trying to push through his pitch for Spider-Man 4.
Funnily enough, Spider-Man 4 was announced way back in the day after Raimi’s mixed third movie. Maguire was set to return and Sam Raimi was on board to helm the picture, which was slated to premiere in 2011. However, the project ultimately fell apart. Maguire would later reprise his role as the web-slinger alongside Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in No Way Home.
Following No Way Home, there’s been so many reports of Maguire returning for a solo movie. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Mattson Tomlin is working to get his idea off the ground. “Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films,” Tomlin said during a fan Q&A earlier this year.
As for his progress on the project, nothing has come together yet, although he’s “trying” to have it gather some momentum — as he outlined in a recent post on X.

Would you like to see Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire? Well, I think fans would flock to movie theatres on opening night to watch it. For now, we’ll have to settle for Tom Holland’s fourth solo movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is slated to arrive in July 2026.
