New ‘The Twilight Zone’ Comics Arrive in September!

Return to The Twilight Zone! IDW Dark has announced an exciting new five-issue black-and-white comic series based on the seminal sci-fi series!

Published by IDW Dark, the upcoming comic series features 5, black-and-white comics, each written by different creatives. Based on Rod Serling’s beloved, long-running sci-fi series of the same name, the series launches in September.

It all kicks off with a new story, Blank, from acclaimed writer Dan Watters (Home Sick Pilots, Sword of Azrael) and illustrated by Morgan Beem (You Belong Here). In a statement, Watters rhapsodised about The Twilight Zone, highlighting the immense honour to be able to write a story within its sandbox.

The Twilight Zone is a genre unto itself,” Watters said. “It’s a cultural titan and a North Star in the strangest skies revealing what science fiction, fantasy and horror can do for us: revealing uncomfortable truths about what lies in our own hearts. This is precisely the vein we hope to tap with our story; the unsettled space between angry and unnerving that is forever the purview of The Twilight Zone.”

“I have long been a fan of all horror, but creepy stories that slowly build to unnerve you have always been first in my heart. Few series have captured that feeling like The Twilight Zone,”Beem added. “Like being trapped in a fever dream or moving through a liminal space, the stories play with the feeling of wrongness, of things out of place. This is the feeling Dan has masterfully captured in our story, and which I hope, through my deep love of all things creepy, will flow through the art. It might not shock you, but you may not be able to stop thinking about it in the middle of the night.”

The full line-up of creators includes:

  • Issue #1: Dan Watters & Morgan Beem
  • Issue #2: Tom Scioli
  • Issue #3: James Stokoe
  • Issue #4: Nate Powell
  • Issue #5: Francesco Francavilla

As it happens, this isn’t a debut foray to comics for The Twilight Zone. Creator J. Michael Straczynski launched his own series at Dynamite Entertainment back in 2014. You can find it here.
