Brian K. Vaughan and artist Cliff Chiang’s Paper Girls is one of Image’s all-time standout series. As it approaches a decade of existence, the series is being rebound into all-new Backpack Editions — perfect for collectors.
A coming-of-age mystery saga, Paper Girls ran for 30 issues from October 2015 to July 2019. The series garnered immense praise, thanks to its Stranger Things-esque ’80s setting and the gripping sci-fi mystery at its core. The high ratings culminated in the series winning several Eisner Awards, namely taking home Best New Series in 2016.
If you’re unacquainted with the series, here’s the official synopsis: In the early hours after Halloween of 1988, four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls—Erin, KJ, Mac, and Tiffany—uncover the most important story of all time. Stand By Me meets Lost in this beloved tale filled-to-the-brim with nostalgia, first jobs, time travel, and the last days of childhood.
Paper Girls is standout jewel in the crown for Image Comics, and to celebrate its 10-year anniversary, the series is being rebound in new eye-popping, compact, 6×9 inch editions, ideal for reading on the go.
“I remain so proud of what my friends and I did with this series,” said Vaughan. “And these gorgeous ‘Backpack’ editions (check out that rad new cover!) are a great way to introduce this emotional young adult adventure to your loved ones, or to rediscover new details from our twisty time-travel tale for yourself.”
Volume 1, covering issues #1 through #10 debuts in comic stores on Wednesday, October 29. The second volume is slated for release sometime in 2026, although no release date has been specified yet. There’s plenty of other editions too, not least the enormous Paper Girls: The Complete Story Compendium paperback, for those who prefer their stories bound in one tome-like volume.
