Daniel Dae Kim (Avatar: The Last Airbender) stars in and executive produces Butterfly, a live-action adaptation of the beloved comic by Arash Amel, coming to Prime Video this August.
Prime Video has had incredible success over the years in adapting beloved graphic novels. Some hits include The Boys and Invincible. This August, the streamer debuts its 6-episode adaptation of best-selling BOOM! Studios graphic novel Butterfly by Arash Amel. The series is created by Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) alongside acclaimed novelist Steph Cha.
Alongside Kim, the cast includes Reina Hardesty (The Secret Art of Human Flight), Piper Perabo (Yellowstone, Billions, The Big Leap), and Louis Landau (Rivals).
Butterfly is a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. It follows enigmatic former US intelligence operative David Jung (Kim), living in South Korea. His life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organisation she works for.

“Butterfly is the realization of a longtime dream to bring together American and Korean storytellers and create a show that bridges two cultures that I love deeply,” said Kim. “I couldn’t be happier with the creative team we’ve assembled, both in front of and behind the camera, and I’m grateful to Ken Woodruff, BOOM! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and everyone else who helped bring it to life.”
