Spider-Man Veteran Dan Slott Jumps to DC for ‘Superman Unlimited’

Long-time Spider-Man writer Dan Slott has made the leap over to DC to pen Superman Unlimited with artist Rafael Albuquerque!

Marvel veteran Dan Slott (writer of The Amazing Spider-Man) will collaborate with DC on a new Superman comic. The upcoming comic, titled Superman Unlimited, takes place after a Kryptonite asteroid has crashed into Earth. This makes Superman’s greatest weakness accessible to all.

The idea of making Superman’s greatest weakness a common commodity on Earth is a very exciting prospect indeed!

The comic belongs to DC’s initiative titled “Summer of Superman.” The initiative brings the Man of Steel to the forefront of the DC Universe ahead of James Gunn’s Superman movie on July 26.

“He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him,” Slott said in a statement. “Not just because of all the amazing powers he has, but because of who he is inside.”

“Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before—or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”

In addition, DC group editor Paul Kaminski hyped the project. “Superman Unlimited will capture the big, fun, high-flying adventures that Superman is known for, while also providing big moments for DC’s Superman-related comics with the introduction of a massive new Kryptonite deposit,” he said, teasing a more ruthless story arc:

“Imagine a world where Superman is stopping a bank robbery, but every weapon is packed with Kryptonite ammunition and every petty criminal carries a Kryptonite shiv. This is a world of unlimited danger on a level that Superman, and DC’s Superman family of characters, has never faced before.”

Superman Unlimited hits shelves on May 21; a couple of months before James Gunn’s latest blockbuster hits theatres. Slott and Albuquerque will unveil a 10-page prelude in DC’s All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition No. 1, releasing on May 3.
