The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has offered a positive update on season 5, confirming that it’s coming “(reasonably) soon.”
The Boys season 5 is all set up to be its most epic outing yet. It’s all set up to have a grand showdown between the show’s most opposing figures: the oppressive, pathologically cruel and power-hungry Homelander (Antony Starr) and his arch-nemesis Billy Butcher (Karl Urban). Fans have been waiting on this showdown for a long time now, and while the final season won’t air until 2026, the final season has just had a positive update from showrunner Eric Kripke.
Prime Video has not set a release date for the final season yet, but we know that it’s coming in 2026. Filming officially wrapped back in June 2025, and the episodes have been in long post-production since. However, according to Kripke, all editing is nearing completion. “Editing is done, we’re halfway finished with VFX, Music, Color,” he wrote on X in a post celebrating the finale of spinoff Gen V. “COMING (reasonably) SOON.”
Prepare for the unexpected in The Boys season 5. With it being the final season, absolutely nothing is off the table. Opportunities for brutality and vulgarity is off-the-scale. “That’s the fun of the final season. You can blow the doors off it,” Kripke told Games Radar. “There’s no guarantee who’s going to survive because you don’t have to keep [the cast] for another season. So you can have really shocking, big things happen all the time. The writers, as we’re starting to cook it up, we’re really enjoying that.”
In the meantime, spinoff Gen V is now complete and available for streaming on Prime Video. In the words of Kripke, “if you haven’t watched, what the fucking fuck you waiting for?”
