The Guardians of the Galaxy saga may have concluded, but Vin Diesel is very keen to explore more Groot stories. In fact, he recently the mysterious development of a triumphant return for the MCU’s lovable cosmic tree-creature!
Vin Diesel has voiced Groot in several movies across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first played the character over a decade ago in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), going on to reprise the role for two further Guardians movies and a few ensemble Avengers films. He even returned to voice Baby Groot in Disney+ spinoff series I am Groot, which chronicled the misadventures of Baby Groot out in the cosmos.
After playing the lovable character for so long, Diesel very much has an affinity with Groot, and he’s keen to play him once more. The Fast & Furious actor weighed in on a potential return to action as the voice of Groot in the MCU on Instagram. In a caption on one of his posts, where he discussed what projects are in the works this year, he wrote: “Also, Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet.”
Of course, this is far from any sort of confirmation. Disney doesn’t officially have a Groot film in the works at the moment. But who’s to say we won’t see one further down the line? I mean, the scripts would be pretty easy; the character only repeats one line.
In addition to Marvel, Diesel also has plenty of projects in the works in 2025. He also mentioned Fast X2, Rock Em Sock Em Robots, Riddick, xXx, and even The Last Witch Hunter. He’s got a lot of exciting projects going on this year. For us Marvel geeks, we’re desperate to get some more clarity on this mysterious project!
