This Week in BOOM!

This Week in Boom! for 1/14/15

Kyle Garret
January 14, 2015
This Week in BOOM!

We have returned!  After an extended hiatus (which included my son’s first Christmas), I’ve returned to give you the head’s up on what’s arriving at your comic shop or tablet this week from Boom!

Adventure Time Banana Guard Academy #1 (Of 6)(Coleman Engle SDCC Variant Cover), $9.99
Amazing World Of Gumball #1 (Coleman Engle SDCC Variant Cover), $9.99
Big Trouble In Little China #1 (Adam Hughes SDCC Variant Cover), $9.99
Capture Creatures #1 (Katy Farina 2nd Printing Variant Cover), $3.99
Steven Universe #1 (Coleman Engle SDCC Variant Cover), $9.99
Woods #1 (Jeff Stokely SDCC Variant Cover), $9.99

You crazy kids and your variant covers.  Back in my day, we got one cover and we liked it!  All of these books seem to be doing very well for Boom.

Adventure Time Marceline Gone Adrift #1 (Of 6)(Cover A Reimena Yee), $3.99
Adventure Time Marceline Gone Adrift #1 (Of 6)(Cover B Mychal Amann), $3.99
Adventure Time Marceline Gone Adrift #1 (Of 6)(Cover C Joe Quinones), AR
Adventure Time Marceline Gone Adrift #1 (Of 6)(Cover D Britt Wilson), AR

Another Adventure Time title and more variant covers.  I hope Adventure Time is still a thing in a few years because I’d love for my son to watch it — and read the comics, of course.

BOOM Box 2014 Mix Tape #1 (Cover A Jake Lawrence), $9.99
BOOM Box 2014 Mix Tape #1 (Cover B Jake Lawrence), $9.99

Hexed #6

Hexed #6

This is an oversized anthology featuring some of Boom’s most popular titles for only 10 bucks.  I highly recommend it if you’re interested in seeing what makes Boom so great.

Bravest Warriors #28 (Cover A Ian McGinty), $3.99
Bravest Warriors #28 (Cover B Priscilla Wong), $3.99
Bravest Warriors #28 (Cover C Rachael Hunt), AR
Bravest Warriors Volume 4 TP, $14.99

More comics for kids and the parents who love them!

Deep State #3 (Cover A Matt Taylor), $3.99
Deep State #3 (Cover B Artyom Trakhanov), AR

This is an interesting series, although I’m waiting for it to take the step towards essential reading.  That might happen with this issue, though, as the cliffhanger from #2 suggested craziness ahead.  This is a good, X-Files type book that I think has the potential to break free from that mold.  It looks good, too.

Fraggle Rock Journey To The Everspring #4 (Of 4)(Cover A Jake Myler), $3.99

I really need to try these books out.  I wonder if Boom has or will unify the Henson-verse, perhaps have crossovers and the like?

Hexed #6 (Cover A Dan Mora), $3.99

I really enjoy Hexed and it didn’t even dawn on me until issue #5 that the entire cast is made up of women, which is such a wonderful thing, particularly since the women in question are wonderfully developed.  The art by Dan Mora is fantastic and reason enough to pick this up.

Regular Show #19 (Cover A Andy Hirsch), $3.99
Regular Show #19 (Cover B Andy Kluthe), $3.99
Regular Show #19 (Cover C Natalie Andrewson), ARl
Steven Universe #6 (Cover A Tait Howard), $3.99

Wild's End #5

Wild’s End #5

Steven Universe #6 (Cover B Meg Gandy), $3.99
Steven Universe #6 (Cover C Helen Yoon), AR
Teen Dog #5 (Cover A Jake Lawrence), $3.99.

More comics for kids and the parents who love them!  Okay, I promise that I’ll start digging into the KaBoom line a

bit more in the new year.  I’m clearly missing out.

Thomas Alsop #8 (Of 8)(Cover A Palle Schmidt), $3.99

The grand finale!  Check out the preview pages (with commentary!) here on CB.

Wild’s End #5 (Of 6)(Cover A I.N.J. Culbard), $3.99

I just got caught up on this series and it’s wonderful.  I hope people are reading.  I can see why Boom wanted to publish it.  Anthropomorphic comics appear to be making a come back these days, but human like animals will only go so far if the story is bad.  But Wild’s End features great characters with a simple, well told story, and some nice art.  It also features some great back matter.  If you’re not reading this, you should be.
