James Gunn confirms that a Wonder Woman movie is currently in development at DC Studios.
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s all-new DC Studios continuity kicks off in July with the release of Superman. There’s plenty more where that comes from, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow also arriving in 2026, and myriad more movies planned. In a recent interview, Gunn revealed that a new Wonder Woman film is in development.
The news dropped during Gunn’s interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he revealed that a Wonder Woman film is “being written right now.”
This comes as no real surprise. I mean, there was always going to be a Wonder Woman film at some point but at least this confirms that it’s not too far away. The new continuity also means a new Wonder Woman will enter the fray, unless they decide to re-cast Gal Gadot, which seems highly unlikely. Nobody has been cast as Diana Prince yet; that news will come much further down the line.
Also in the interview, Gunn weighed in on Matt Reeves’ slice of the DC Universe, which is still ongoing through The Batman and its upcoming sequel The Batman: Part II. Gunn revealed that Reeves’ continuity “is still there.”
“What Matt’s doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary,” he explains. “We’re supposed to see that script shortly, and I can’t wait.”
Yes, to can simply dip into James Gunn’s DC Universe!
One key thing that Gunn is working incredibly hard to sustain in his DC Studios continuity, is keeping each project standalone enough for viewers to be able to dip in and out. This goes contrary to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for instance, which heavily relies on viewers having at least a little prior knowledge going into new shows and movies. “I am really trying to be careful that anybody can dip in and see the story that is up next and not feel like they’re missing information.”
