Seminal creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming will celebrate 25 years of Powers with an all-new ongoing series, Powers 25, coming this September.
Launching back in 2000 from Image Comics, Powers was an Eisner-winning superhero crime-noir comic from legends Brian Michael Bendis (writer) and Michael Avon Oeming (illustrator). The series is regarded as one of the most influential indie comics of the 2000s, spanning dozens of issues across numerous story arcs.
During its time, Powers started at Image Comics before landing at Marvel’s Icon imprint. Now, 25 years after its inception, an all new 12-issue story arc, titled Powers 25, is on the way from Dark Horse Comics. The new series will mark the return of beloved favourites, as well as new characters. The arc is intended to satisfy long-time fans, while still being accessible to newcomers.
The official synopsis reads: “This new tale is a fun, dangerous, adult look at a world of heroes through the eyes of special homicide officer Detective Kutter and her brand-new partner, and the first power to ever make the powers division, Moebius Moon. Under the watchful eyes of legendary Captains Deena Pilgrim and Enki Sunrise, the new detectives run through a minefield of all-new dangers. A new unsolvable powers murder has Kutter and Moon questioning EVERYTHING about the world and their place in it.”
“Brian and Michael’s work on Powers has been groundbreaking since its debut in 2000,” Dark Horse Comics Founder Mike Richardson said in a statement. “We are thrilled to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a new series fans will love. I can’t wait to show fans these incredible stories from two of the best creators in comics today.”
