James Tynion IV and artist Martin Simmonds created a modern horror classic with their comic Universal Monsters: Dracula. Now, the limited series is being relaunched in a gorgeous black-and-white style.
The Image Comics collaboration with Universal Pictures on Universal Monsters has resulted in some glorious works. Attracting top tier talents, the projects have so far included Universal Monsters: The Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives!, Universal Monsters: Frankenstein, Universal Monsters: The Mummy, and of course, Universal Monsters: Dracula.
Perhaps the most coveted of all the comics in the series is 4‑issue miniseries Universal Monsters: Dracula from James Tynion IV (Exquisite Corpses, Something is Killing the Children) and artist Martin Simmonds, which retells the classic Universal 1931 Dracula film — all wrapped up in some hauntingly stunning artwork. Naturally, the comics also feature several notable characters from the original picture, including R.M. Renfield, Mina Seward, Doctor John Seward, Van Helsing, and more.
Now, Image is turning back to the Dracula retelling, announcing an excitement re-release of the comic series, but this time in breathtaking black-and-white. “Back by popular demand, we’re thrilled to be offering a special black & white presentation of the Universal Monsters project that started it all—James Tynion IV & Martin Simmonds’ DRACULA!” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “Readers will be transported back to the days of classic cinema, and this hefty 2-in-1 printing pairs well with a nice glass of…wine!”
