Movie Review: Superman (2025)

After so much hype and anticipation, Superman is here — and it’s a triumphant and exciting start to the DCU!

Supermanstarring David Corenswet as the titular hero, is the first movie in the rebooted instalment of DC. His The supporting cast include the incredible Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, the famous Daily Planet reporter. Nicholas Hoult features as the ultimate rival, Lex Luthor. Their performances bring these iconic characters to life in a way that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Corenswet, as Superman, was everything I had been hoping for in this film; he embodied this character and fully understood what he stands for and represents. His counterpart as Clark Kent was excellent to see as well. His humanity and motivation to help others in need were very inspiring — I believe that is something we should all learn from, as well as something we need in these dark times. David’s portrayal is next to that of the late Christopher Reeve, inspiring us all with his unwavering commitment to justice.

Brosnahan as Lois Lane was incredible; she had such a commanding and powerful presence throughout this film, and her character development kept me glued to the screen. She is very set in her ways with people and the world. I’m glad her role wasn’t watered down to give other characters the spotlight.

And Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor… wow… he was brilliant. The way he captured Luthor’s hatred and envy towards Superman couldn’t have been more perfect. You genuinely felt his emotion through the screen, and his relentless pursuit to come out on top was nerve-wracking, adding a sense of curiosity as well.

“The Justice Gang” to whom that involves, Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Mecred) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) were a great addition to the story; it gave me confidence to see the worldbuilding James Gunn and Peter Safran are creating by having already established characters present in this new universe.

As for Guy Gardner, I underestimated Nathan; he fully captured his overconfident and annoying personality, but at the same time, he’ll come through to help no matter what. Isabela as Hawkgirl was sassy and quick-witted, and her youthful personality was fun to watch. The group’s standout character was Mister Terrific! He was incredible; he stole every scene he was in, and as a comic reader, they captured his intellect perfectly, both physically and psychologically.

The chemistry between Superman/Clark and Lois was beautiful and intimate. They work off each other so well. David and Rachel are the perfect pairing for these characters. James Gunn and the team can be greatly commended for casting them together.

Ma & Pa Kent were my emotional standouts, keeping the story warm and heartfelt; true to the core of Superman. They are the humanity that Superman represents to others, and they genuinely made me cry because of how positive they were about their son and his struggles.

As a comic book nerd, this film was perfect for me. The strong themes in the story, which remind us of current politics and severe global issues, were brilliant. It reminds us that hope is the light that lifts us out of darkness.
