With the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 12th TV show hitting screens, we’re here to clear up any confusion you might have about the timeline of Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.

The latest instalment in the MCU is Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man. The 10-episode 3D cel-shaded animated series tells an origin story for Peter Parker as Spider-Man, but takes place in a different timeline than Tom Holland’s Spidey. In a recent interview, executive producer Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt provided clarity for fans confused about where the series fits in the sprawling, complex MCU continuity.

The new series follows Peter Parker’s origin story and his first adventures as Spider-Man. However, it does not take place in the same timeline as Spidey in the movies. Rather, this telling chronicles what would happen if Norman Osborn became Parker’s mentor instead of Tony Stark.

With that said, the show shares some similarities to the MCU’s Sacred Timeline, with Vasquez-Eberhardt revealing on The Official Marvel Podcast that it starts “at a point in the MCU where Civil War has happened, so the Sokovia Accords have been ratified.”

As for when the timeline alters, she reveals an event that occurs when Parker attends school. “A thing happens that—and there goes your branch,” she teased. As for what thing happens specifically… that would be spoilers. Parker’s journey in the series becomes inherently different to his live-action counterpart. It’ll feature a number of new characters, including Nico Minoru and Lonnie Lincoln, aka Tombstone.

Tom Holland will not voice Spider-Man in the series; the duty falls to Hudson Thames. As for supporting cast members, Colman Domingo voices Norman Osborn, Eugene Byrd stars as Tombstone, and Grace Song plays Nico Minoru. Beloved Marvel star Charlie Cox is also returning as Daredevil. Speaking of Daredevil, he will also return for his own series, Daredevil: Born Again, later this year.

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man airs weekly on Disney+, from January 29 through early April.
