7 Most Exciting New Comics Debuting in September 2025

September 2025 is just around the corner, and there’s plenty of all-new comics and graphic novels on the horizon. In this post, we take a look at the 7 we’re most excited about.

From an all-new Batman series, marking only the fourth renumbering in 85 years, to a new series from Robert Kirkman, to the first Marvel and DC crossover in decades — here’s our picks for the 5 most exciting new comic series debuting in September 2025. This list is in release order.

Batman #1

Release date: September 3

Cover by Jorge Jiménez

Perhaps the most anticipated comic of Fall 2025, Batman #1 ushers in a new era for the caped crusader. Penned by Eisner Award-winning writer Matt Fraction (Hawkeye, Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen), with artist Jorge Jiménez (Batman, Summer of Superman Special), colorist Tomeu Morey, and letterer Clayton Cowles. The new continuity is undoubtedly one of the comic book events of the year.

We have a review ready to go on release day. In the meantime, check out the official preview here.

Everything Dead & Dying

Release date: September September 3

Esteemed That Texas Blood and The Enfield Gang Massacre artist Jacob Phillips has teamed up with Eisner Award–nominated Tate Brombal for an all-new western zombie comic Everything Dead & Dying.

In the series, we follow Jack Chandler, a farmer, who unwittingly finds himself the sole survivor of the zombie apocalypse in his quiet rural town. Surrounded by droves of the undead, and appearing immune to the virus, he decides against slaughtering the undead in favour of embracing their presence. His zombified old friends and community members exist alongside him, grunting, snarling, and reenacting their old habits and dull routines. This includes his undead husband and beloved adopted daughter, Daisy. Before long, his peace is interrupted by the living — and he’s the last layer of defence between them and the undead community he rules over.

In our hugely positive review, we noted that Everything Dead & Dying follows the “highly emotional path of The Last of Us, with a slight hint of Richard Matheson’s I am Legend.”

Viking Moon

Release date: September 17

We’re starting off very strong with Viking Moon. Written by Eisner-winning writer Joe Pruett (Voices In My Head, Cable, Domino) with art from Marcelo Frusin (Hellblazer, Loveless, Kick-Ass: The New Girl), the blood-curdling saga sees Vikings face off against werewolves.

Viking Moon takes place years after legendary Viking explorer Leif Erikson established a settlement in North America. After his expedition ended in disaster, Ulf and his tribe of Vikings sail to the shores of Vneland (present day Newfoundland). As they traverse their new surroundings, they encounter indigenous people… and put targets on their backs. However, that’s not all they have to worry about. Lurking in the night are creatures of legend; werewolves. And where they’re involved, death is usually just around the corner.

In our review, we called Viking Moon a must-read comic.

Deadpool/Batman

Release date: September 17

Both Marvel and DC have had a storied rivalry since the mid 20th-century. However, the two titans of the American comic book industry have crossed paths a couple of times in the past, beginning with crossover event Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man back in 1976. The crossovers would continue periodically throughout the next 25 years, with the most recent being Kurt Busiek’s JLA/Avengers(2003–2004).

Now, 22 years after the previous crossover, the two publishers are joining forces for BATMAN/DEADPOOL, consisting of two one-shot comics, one for Marvel written by Zeb Wells; and one for DC written by Grant Morrison. If this isn’t fuel for excitement, I don’t know what is. In addition, there’s plenty more backup crossovers comic our way as well.

System Preference

Release date: September 23

Originally released in France in 2019 from Ugo Bienvenu (Fog, Sphere of Existence), System Preference is coming to English-language in September.

In System Preference, we follow Yves, an archivist at the Bureau of Essentials, who’s got the job of deleting old archived content, such as novels, films, and other media, with the purpose of dumping them to save space for new data, namely social media videos and posts.

Published by Titan Comics, this short-but-powerful graphic novel takes place in a highly political and dystopian society— with numerous comparisons to Orwell’s legendary Nineteen Eighty-Four – and blends it with robotics and plausible (but still very exaggerated) AI and technological scenarios. Readers will also find that it plays out like a classic Black Mirror episode; technologically driven, thought-provoking, and cautionary.

Skinbreaker

Release date: September 24

The Walking Dead and Invincible mastermind Robert Kirkman has teamed up with Batman artist David Finch to unleash Skinbreaker, a brutal new 8-issue comic. The comic features colours by Annalisa Leoni (Invincible Universe: Battle Beast), and letters from Rus Wooton (TRANSFORMERS).

Skinbreaker tells the story of a people on the verge of collapse and their fight for survival as the many threats they face close in for the kill. The official synopsis reads: Enor has led his tribe for many seasons, but his time as Chieftan is coming to an end. He wields the mighty SKINBREAKER, but at his age, he can barely lift it. Will Enor’s reluctant heir, Anok, take over before their world falls to ruin? As a bloody power struggle begins, an even bigger threat lurks in the darkness beyond their village.
