The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln has addressed rumors about a return to the franchise— and it’s good news, folks!
Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes has been the face of The Walking Dead since the first episode. Lincoln spent nine seasons in the main show, ending his journey in season 9 episode. “What Comes After,” before returning for the requisite spinoff series ‘The Ones Who Live,’ in 2024.
The Ones Who Live ended on a happy note. After defeating the oppressive Civic Republic Military, both Rick and Michonne returned home, reuniting with their family. It left on no cliffhanger, although there’s still more than enough scope for additional stories.
As for whether Lincoln’s beloved hero Rick Grimes will harken back to our screens, there’s been no real indication. However, in a recent interview on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Lincoln revealed that pieces are moving to bring him back to the series. “To the show? Yeah, well, there’s a conversation happening right now,” he teased.
We don’t know in what capacity he would return, whether it’s for a cameo or a more significant appearance. But one thing we do know is that franchise overseer Scott M. Gimple has previously hinted at all of the spinoffs converging at some point. There’s currently a couple of big spinoff projects on our screens, such as The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. There’s certainly a feeling that the overarching story will return to the show’s central point. But of course, we’ll have to wait and see.
Before Rick returns (whenever that may be), the franchise continues to explore the world. Daryl Dixon season 3 is set in Spain. And there’s also Dead City, which will return for a third instalment continuing the adventures of Maggie and Negan in New York City.
