Review: ‘Batman #3’

After making its debut in September 2025, Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez’s all-new Batman run is very much making waves. Does issue #3 continue the winning streak?

Fraction and Jiménez take their Batman series to new heights in issue #3. The issue is jam-packed with content, following Vandal Savage as he makes his move against both Batman and Robin. At the same time, Bruce Wayne tries to make amends, and the Riddler is at large, attempting to claim one of the most important items in all of Gotham.

This issue is incredibly dense. Unlike other Batman series, Fraction and Jimenez appear to be adopting a more episodic approach. There’s no significant narrative flow between issues; instead, they quickly jump into big storylines. While this issue was fine in its own right, it fails to effectively develop either Savage or Riddler, resulting in a lack of focus. Compare this to issue #2, which expertly explored Robin.

There’s a lot to admire about this issue — the artwork especially is brilliant. The exploration of Wayne Industries was a welcome addition, too. And I continue loving the creative approach to explaining Batman’s various suits and gadgets. However, of the three issues so far, I personally found this one to be the weakest.
