Rian Johnson on ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo’: “Take My Money!”

During a recent screening of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, director Rian Johnson passionately weighed in on scrapped Star Wars sequel movie The Hunt for Ben Solo.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be very aware of all the news surrounding proposed Star Wars movie The Hunt for Ben Solo that Disney dismissed. In short, a sequel movie to The Rise of Skywalker was to Disney by Adam Driver and director Steven Soderbergh. It would see Ben Solo come back from the dead. However, the House of Mouse didn’t heed the idea, and it was ultimately scrapped.

In the weeks since this news dropped, fans have protested the decision en masse. Look no further than the fact that fans sent a banner over Disney Studios in California, reading: “Save #TheHuntForBenSolo”. Everywhere you turn, Star Wars fans are making their voices heard.

It’s not just casual fans, either. Even Rian Johnson — who directed The Last Jedi — is getting in on the act. During a recent screening of his latest movie Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, per Collider, the filmmaker voiced his opinion on the subject.

“Take my money! I only know what I read about it online. I didn’t know anything about it, but who knows how things are developed these days? But man, I will watch Driver in anything, but I would love to see him play that character again.”

Naturally, it remains to be seen whether Disney will actually move to create The Hunt for Ben Solo. It’s unlikely, but fans can dream — and absolutely use everything in their power to ensure Disney and Lucasfilm never hear the end of this.

The Star Wars franchise continues to pursue other projects like The Mandalorian and Grogu. One of the most peculiar of all the upcoming movies is Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, and Matt Smith. We’ve compiled everything you need to know about Starfighter here.
