Skinbreaker

Robert Kirkman, the esteemed creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible, has teamed with David Finch, Annalisa Leoni, and Rus Wooton to deliver an explosive, action-packed, and heartfelt saga in Skinbreaker.

As an enormous fan of Robert Kirkman’s works, from The Walking Dead, to Invincible, to Outcast, to Oblivion Song, and so on, when I heard about Skinbreaker, I added it to my pull list without reading the synopsis. Pretty much everything Kirkman pens is masterful. Am I his biggest fan? Probably.

An 8-issue series, Skinbreaker transports fans to a primitive and tribal fantasy world, where we encounter an orc-esque people on the verge of collapse. We follow Enor, who has been the chieftain of his tribe for many years, but he’s grown old and weary, and can no hardly wield the mighty Skinbreaker — he struggles to even lift it. Given his condition, the people of the tribe believe he’s no longer fit to be chieftain, and so a power struggle ensues. Enor’s reluctant heir, Anor, knows that in order to take the mantle as head of the tribe, he must kill Enor and claim the Skinbreaker as his own. Does he have the strength to rule? Or will others strive to become chieftain?

Devil On My Shoulder #1

Devil On My Shoulder #1 is about as dark and disturbing as it gets.

Published by Dark Horse Comics, Devil On My Shoulder is a 4-issue series from the creators of Where Monsters Lie: Kyle Starks (Those Not Afraid) and Piotr Kowalski (Let This One Be a Devil). The creative team is completed by Brad Simpson (Colorist) and Josh Reed (Letterer). It’s a chilling revenge horror.

Issue #1 is about as brutal and disturbing as a comic book can get. I mean, there’s even a warning on page one, telling readers that the comic contains violence against women and abuse. I was thankful that a warning was placed at the beginning. You don’t always see them, and it helped me prepare for the visceral content it contained.

Devil On My Shoulder follows a young woman. When her boss asks her to stay late in her retail job, she reluctantly obliges. Left on her own, she locks up and leaves late at night, where she encounters a group of boys who attack and abduct her. They keep her locked in a barn, which they call Hell, and torture her for over forty days. After being presumed dead, they throw her body into the sea… but she washes up alive, and very much ready to seek revenge.

Capes #1

Classic Invincible series Capes is back and better than ever before. Dive back into Capes Inc. as they protect New York City from threats big and small!

With Capes, publisher Image Comics is re-introducing a series that dates back to 2003, where it was created by Kirkman himself and Mark Englert. The series is considered a cult in the fandom, but it went long out of print. This new reprint doesn’t just bring back the original; it builds on it. They contain all-new art and dialogue. It’s a thoughtful way of bringing them back. Rather than sending them back to the printer, Capes is being given its due, and the makeover is glorious. It feels like a labor of love.

Capes is a comic book that brilliantly captures the essence of the Invincible Universe. It boasts thrilling action sequences, whacky and eccentric characters, and a ton of laugh-out-loud moments. The story revolves around Bolt, a superhero who works at Capes Incorporated, a team dedicated to protecting New York City from various threats. While they may not be as renowned as the esteemed Guardians of the Globe, Capes Inc. still faces off against formidable villains.

Issue #1 is very much an introduction to Capes Inc., told through the lens of Bold. In the office, Bolt inducts Kid Thor into the group, showing him the ropes. In true Invincible fashion, it’s very fast-paced, instantly balancing multiple storylines. It’s also really funny and chock full of both meta superhero jokes and commentary on capitalism. Why is Capes hiring younger people? Why is the company cutting back on overtime pay? If you’re a fan of The Boys, Capes will undoubtedly give you heavy Vought vibes.

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender –Team Avatar Treasury’

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Team Avatar Treasury brings together a trio of standalone graphic novels that spotlight fan-favorite characters from the original animated series.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Team Avatar Treasury gathers together three beautifully illustrated and emotionally rich stories: Katara and the Pirate’s Silver, Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy, and Suki, Alone. Each one centers on a different woman from Team Avatar, and together they highlight something that has always been true about the Avatar universe — that the women are its backbone. Through courage, compassion, and determination, Katara, Toph, and Suki each show a different kind of strength, proving that heroism in this world isn’t defined by brute force but by heart and resilience.

Terminator: Santa Claus is Coming to Town #1

Ever watched a Terminator movie and thought, ‘I know exactly what this needs: a Christmas special’? Well, 2025 is your year! Introducing Terminator: Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Published by Dynamite Entertainment and STUDIOCANAL, Terminator: Santa Claus is Coming to Town is written by Paulina Ganucheau (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Black White & Green, Disney Villains: Maleficent, The Powerpuff Girls) and artist Kendall Goode.

Terminator: Santa Claus is Coming to Town is a landmark story for the franchise. None of the movies were ever set during Christmas. So what happens when the Terminator shows up to spread festive cheer? A whole lot of fun.

The comic opens on Christmas Eve, many years after the cataclysmic Judgement Day, where we follow Resistance soldier Eva and her teen companion, who’s curious about the old festivities (or Christmas ‘lore’). In between dodging drone attacks — and fighting a T-800 dressed as Santa Claus — she recalls heart-warming fables of Christmases past. Her stories are almost a mythology in the brutal post-Judgement Day world.

Absolute Batman #14

Absolute Batman 14 cover

Batman faces off against Bane in the most explosive issue of Absolute Batman to date!

Issue #14 bigger, crazier, and downright chaotic. The conflict between Batman and Bane reaches an explosive boiling point, culminating in a showdown for the ages.

In Absolute Batman #14, both Batman and Catwoman face-off against Bane in the ultimate final boss battle. It offers just about everything the Absolutes have become known for, multiplied by eleven. But it’s not just pure fighting; there’s plenty of heart. I particularly loved the callbacks to Waylon Jones (Killer Croc) and his seminal fight before he became Killer Croc. The combination of the stories, which both echo and repel each other, was a glorious addition to the story. It dives into Wayne’s psyche, which again, is both different and similar to traditional Batman, while keeping the character’c core values front and centre.

Assorted Crisis Events #6

There’s good comics, there’s great comics, even phenomenal comics. But very rarely does an issue come along that leaves me completely speechless. It’s only happened once so far in 2025… when I picked up Assorted Crisis Events #6.

In issue #6, we follow Sasha and John, a married couple. After years of marriage, John gets diagnosed with a rare disease called Retro Anterograde Temporal Diminishment, which causes his form to vacillate between child and octogenarian from one moment to the next. One moment he’s his actual age, but then he can change to a toddler, then to a withering old man, and back to a baby. Sasha stays by his side, caring for him throughout his episodes. It’s a story of love and companionship.
