Marvel’s Blade Video Game Gets Positive Update

During The Game Awards in December 2023, Marvel Games, Bethesda Softworks, and Arkane Lyon announced an all-new Blade video game. Since then, updates have been few and far between, but the game has just got a positive update from one of its developers.

Marvel heroes have had myriad success in the video game space over the years. So too has DC, which has had various stellar Batman games. Perhaps the most standout on the Marvel side of things are the Spider-Man games, though other heroes have had their due, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy. As for Blade, Marvel’s popular vampire-killing hero, there’s only ever been one video game. It came back in 2000 on Playstation and Game Boy Color, and was tied to the 1998 Blade film starring Wesley Snipes. The game was simply okay. It was very much a product of the era of movie tie-in games.

However, in 2023, a Blade game was announced that’d not only be the biggest in the character’s history, but would potentially be one of the finest superhero video games ever. It was a collaboration between Marvel Games, Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Lyon (the developers behind Dishonored and Deathloop). Intended for mature gamers, it was a single-player, third-person action-adventure, where gamers would play an original story as Eric Brooks (aka Blade), as he takes on a vampire-infested Paris. The game went into active development in late 2024. Since then, updates have been relatively scarce.

Our latest update came direct from Dinga Bakaba, the Studio and Co-Creative Director at Arkane Lyon. When asked on X/Twitter for a tidbit of information, Bakaba shared a positive response. “The team is hard at work, everyone is super proud and out doing themselves,” he wrote. “Please be patient, it will be a special game and we all hope it will be meeting the high standards that we set for ourselves and for you all.”

As of right now, Marvel’s Blade has no release date. We don’t expect to see it out before 2027 at the earliest. Of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe also has a Blade movie in development, starring Mahershala Ali in the titular role. Mia Goth (Frankenstein, A Cure for Wellness) has also been cast. The movie has endured pretty massive delays, and we don’t expect to see it hit screens until around 2028. No doubt, when Blade‘s time comes, it’s going to be big!
