A Herculean effort to raise funds for oppressed and vulnerable communities in the United States is coming to a close on Kickstarter this week. January 28th marks the final date of the crowdfunding campaign for Horror Not Hate, an anti-fascist and anti-hate horror comic and art anthology where all proceeds are being donated to good causes.
Horror Not Hate is the cumulative effort of over 100 contributors from the comics world, the horror world, the fine art world, the metal world, and the lowbrow art world. Spearheaded by comics writer and Slow Feet Comics founder J.M. Brandt, Horror Not Hate collects 26 stories of socially conscious horror featuring the writing talents of Brandt, David M. Booher (Ghostbusters, Canto), Rich Douek (Venom), Joshua Pruett (Emmy winner & NYT Best Seller), Tim Waggoner (Stoker & Shirley Jackson winner in his 2nd comic story ever), Ben Kahn, Lan Pitts, Joe Corallo, Jonathan Hedrick, and more. The interior art of the comics is highlighted by the talents of Caleb Ady (In Bloom), Francesca Fantini (Stake), Zak Kinsella, Dan MacLeod, Jade Lowder, Kurt Belcher, and more.
In addition to the over 200 pages of comic stories, 50 illustrations appear in a gallery in the book from some of the finest names in horror, comic, and metal art. Skinner (album covers for Mastodon and High On Fire) leads the names in the gallery. Also featured are Brett Parson (Grommets), Claudia Balboni (Image, Dark Horse, Mad Cave), and Arjuna Susini (Vault, Oni Press). Horror and metal artists in the gallery include CVSPE, Ghostship Art, Pyromallis, Brett Herman, Stephanie Inagaki, Solo Macello, and others.
Horror Not Hate is donating all proceeds once printing and fulfillment are done to CHIRLA and Lambda Legal– supporting vital efforts in providing resources for immigrant and LGBTQIA+ rights. In addition to the collection in digital and print formats (featuring 4 different covers by Chad J. Keith, Jonathan La Mantia, Skinner, and Matt Stikker), many rewards and add-ons are available. Contributing artist Sean Äaberg has added copies of his cult classic role playing board game Dungeon Degenerates as a reward. Several artists have added commission slots including Caleb Ady and Francesca Fantini. Original art from Chad J. Keith, Joe Vaux, Tyler Lamph, Patrick Buermeyer, and others is available. Original comic pages from Caleb Ady and Jade Lowder are also available as add-ons. Limited edition shirts, stickers, prints, and posters featuring the art inside the book (as well as other art prints and concert posters from contributing artists) can be had as well.
