Out of the 20 best-selling comic books of 2025, a massive 14 of them were DC Absolute Universe titles. But funny enough, the comic that took the #1 spot was a collaboration between both Marvel and DC.
If you’ve been reading comics in the last year, chances are you’re well-acquainted with DC‘s Absolute Universe. The series has been top tier, from Snyder and Dragotta’s Absolute Batman, to Camp and Rodriguez’s Absolute Martian Manhunter, and so on. These creative, unique, and reimagined takes have rejuvenated these characters. They’re similar enough to feel authentic, but different enough to feel novel. They have everyone flooding into comic stores for the latest issues. “I hope it reminds people that these characters are meant to be renewed,” Scott Snyder said in a 2025 AMA. “They’re meant to be burned down and put together. Batman weaponizes his trauma to make the world better, that’s how he wins.”
The success of the Absolute Universe is more than reflected in comic book sales throughout 2025. DC dominates the standings, but it’s a historic Marvel/DC crossover that spearheads the list. What’s pretty telling is the 14 Absolute Universe titles in the Top 20, with 11 of them being Absolute Batman.

We’ve written at length about how DC needs to continue taking big risks and brave strokes into 2026, and they certainly are. The Absolute Universe is growing from strength to strength — and at this point in 2026, it still feels like we’re at the tip of the iceberg.
