Since it began in 2010, AMC’s The Walking Dead has grew to become one of the most sprawling franchises on television. There’s currently six spinoff series, as well as an anthology season. Wondering where to get started? We have you covered.
The Walking Dead Universe is the biggest zombie franchise in history. It always called itself the ‘zombie movie that never ends,’ and that sentiment has reigned true over the years. Through the main show and its enormous slate of spinoffs, there’s currently over 350 individual episodes. And despite the mother show concluding back in 2022, the franchise is far from over. Spinoffs The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City are still ongoing, with the former set to end later this year.
With such a gluttony of content, it can be quite daunting for new viewers. But fear not. We’ve compiled the entire original release order down below, allowing newcomers to experience the franchise the same way long-time viewers did. Take a look:

Here’s how to watch The Walking Dead in chronological order
Now for the confusing chronological order. We only recommend this format for long-time viewers, because, well, watching The Walking Dead in chronological order is nigh on an impossible task. Episodes are crammed with flashbacks, spinoffs (especially TWD and FTWD) weave in and out of each other, clash narratives, and include heavy time jumps. That’s not to mention the various webisodes, which we’ll discuss in a separate article altogether.
The challenge of gathering a chronological order is more about getting things as close to perfect as possible rather than ardently and strictly sticking to the chronological narrative — if we did it like that, we’d be splitting episodes by time stamps. Watching it this way is the easiest to watch it in mostly chronological order. Let’s dive into it:
- Fear the Walking Dead seasons 1 – 3
- The Walking Dead seasons 1 – 8
- Fear the Walking Dead season 4
- Tales of the Walking Dead season 1
- The Walking Dead season 9 episodes 1 – 5
- Fear the Walking Dead seasons 5
- The Walking Dead season 9 episodes 6 – 16
- Fear the Walking Dead seasons 6 – 7
- The Walking Dead season 10
- The Walking Dead: The World Beyond seasons 1 – 2
- The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
- The Walking Dead season 11
- Fear the Walking Dead season 8
- The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
- The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2
- The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3
- The Walking Dead: Dead City
- The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2
