Despite suggestions that the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead spinoff Daryl Dixon will debut later this year, star Norman Reedus has confirmed that the series will conclude in early 2027.

Despite the main series concluding back in 2022, The Walking Dead Universe continues to endure through a slate of sequel spinoffs. Currently airing is Dead City Season 3, continuing the adventures of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Manhattan. Beyond that, the only confirmed returning project is Daryl Dixon Season 4, which happens to be the show’s final season. It’s unlikely that it’ll mark the end of the franchise — with The Walking Dead, there’s always something simmering behind-the-scenes.

The Daryl Dixon spinoff has been on quite the journey so far. It began back in 2023. In its first season, Daryl (Norman Reedus) found himself in France, integrating into a new community. By Season 2, he was joined by Carol (Melissa McBride). In the third season, they ended up in Spain after a brief layover in the United Kingdom. The upcoming fourth and final season begins where the Season 3 left off in Spain, and will more than likely see them return to the United States by the end (although let’s not rule anything out).

For a while now, fans have presumed that Daryl Dixon will take the franchise’s long-standing Halloween slot and air later this year. Filming wrapped on the final season earlier this year. However, a recent post from star Norman Reedus on Instagram has revealed that the release date will not take place this year — rather, we’ll see it in 2027.

Geeky news, delivered.

“Daryl Dixon’s final episodes are coming 2027!” Reedus wrote. “I can’t quite believe we’re here. Thank you to every single one of you who joined us on this journey – through the good, the brutal and everything in between. We’ve gotten a lot of bruises, scars and concussions along the way. A lot of hard work went into this series, especially the crews. This last chapter is gonna hit different and hit hard. I can’t wait for you all to see them. See you in 2027.”

Whether Daryl Dixon Season 4 is the last we’ll see of Reedus in the franchise remains to be seen, but we doubt it. In fact, AMC’s Chief Content Officer Dan McDermott said in a recent interview with The Ankler that there are currently active discussions with the actor about a return to action in the future. “We adore Norman and the Daryl Dixon character – he’s clearly a fan favorite, and people show up for him wherever he is. We are in active discussions with him right now about what we should and can do for the next iteration of a story in the Walking Dead Universe for Daryl Dixon.”

We know that many of our favorite characters are still alive, including Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and so on. If Daryl does return at some point, does that then set up a big Walking Dead reunion? We’ll have to wait and see.
