Fan-favourite limited series Universal Monsters: Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! by Dan Watters, Ram V & Matthew Roberts returns with a remastered black-and-white edition this Summer!
From Image Comics and Skybound, the Universal Monsters series is hugely popular, and new stories keep on coming. Later this month, we’ll see Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera from acclaimed writer Tyler Boss (You’ll Do Bad Things) and illustrator Martin Simmonds (Department of Truth). After that, we’ll see popular Universal Monsters series, Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! return in an all-new black-and-white format.
Of course, these black-and-white editions are nothing new. We previously saw Universal Monsters: Dracula get the same treatment, and it was a gorgeous release.
Originally released as a four-issue limited series, Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! picks up years after the events of the 1954 Universal Pictures’ film. Journalist Kate Marsden hunts for a notorious serial killer in the heart of the Amazon. Hot on the trail of this madman, she soon encounters an unexpected new threat–but is he a friend or foe? Or is he simply…THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON?
In addition to Gill-Man himself, the series introduces new characters like journalist Kate Marsden and serial killer Darwin Collier, along with a returning character from the film – the mysterious Doctor Edwin Thompson.
The upcoming edition sees first two issues of their series in stunning, remastered black and white. “After the massive success of our Dracula Black & White Special, we’re thrilled to return to the Black Lagoon!” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “Dan Watters and Ram V delivered an incredible crime story that fans never saw coming, and Matthew Roberts’ stunning art may look even better in black & white.”
Universal Monsters: Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! Black & White Special #1 will be available at comic book shops and digital platformson Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Will you be picking it up? Tell us in the comments down below!
