Daniel Radcliffe Weighs in On Playing Wolverine: “It Was a Very Flattering Internet Rumor”

For many yers now, many Marvel fans have been desperate to see Daniel Radcliffe play Wolverine. But the actor himself, while flattered by the notion, is not looking to tackle the role anytime soon.

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine. He’s been playing the hero for over 25 years at this point, and he holds the record for the longest-running live-action Marvel character, having appeared in 10 films. However, if there’s one actor fans think can do justice to the character, it’s legendary Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. The fan casting is one of the most popular on the internet.

As for Radcliffe himself, he’s very aware of the fan casting. But for him, that’s about where it ends. He’s flattered by the idea, but the mere notion of taking the reins from Jackman — whose portrayal is nothing short of legendary — is incredibly daunting. “It was never real. It was a very flattering internet rumor. I was very happy about it, but it was never suggested in any kind of way by anybody with any power to make that happen,” Radcliffe said in a recent interview with ComicBook. “And, honestly, you would be stupid not to consider something like that, but if they do other Wolverines, being the person who follows Hugh Jackman is not on my bucket list for anything. For any role of his, particularly the role he has made the most iconic of his career, I am happy not to be doing that and let him keep doing it.”

After playing Harry Potter for so long, and of course collecting other esteemed roles such as headlining The Woman in Black, Radcliffe is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. He has a choice of projects to tackle. On that note, if a comic book project does become available, he would be totally willing to read the scripts.

“I am certainly not averse to it. I would never rule anything like that out. But, also, I am not necessarily clamoring to be in it or seeking that. I am lucky that I can judge any job by the quality of the script. So, if a script came in that was exciting, different, weird, and cool, then I’d be up for it no matter what it was.”

If one thing is for certain, however, if any comic book project came about for him, he has a lot of catching up to do. “I am so out of the loop,” he admitted. “I feel like I don’t know what cycle we are on of the Marvel movies, and I have some catching up to do if I ever end up on one of them.”

For now, Hugh Jackman will continue playing Wolverine. But there’s still so many other comic book roles up for grabs. Who would you cast Radcliffe as? Tell us in the comments down below!
