Image Comics Series ‘No Man’s Land’ is Getting the Hollywood Treatment

In No Man’s Land, Szymon Kudrański invites readers into a dreary and ominous world where collapse teeters on the brink. After much success on the page, the comic series has been picked up for a big screen adaptation.

Writer-artist Szymon Kudrański published his series No Man’s Land at Image Comics in 2025, and the series debuted to great critical acclaim. We loved it in our review. A tense, ominous mystery, buried in political drama, the series has drawn comparisons to some of the most esteemed crime thrillers in Hollywood, not least David Fincher’s seminal movies ‘Zodiac‘ and ‘SE7EN‘. Now No Man’s Land will get a chance to flourish on the big screen, being adapted by the producer behind Highest 2 Lowest.

The series follows a struggling FBI agent, Kevin Collins, who’s sent out to investigate a murder as tensions ignite between the United States and Russia. “The Diomede Islands mark the border between the U.S. and Russia. For about three monthseach year, an ice bridge forms, connecting the two. In 1963, the body of a woman was discovered on this frozen no man’s land. Both the FBI and the KGB were sent to investigate, with the shadow of nuclear war looming over them,” Kudrański told Comics Bulletin in our exclusive interview when the series debuted.

“I think it was around 2011, while I was drawing new Spawn issues, that I had the TV on just for background noise. There was a documentary about Alaska, and it mentioned a 2.5 miles of ice bridge between the islands, right at the U.S.–Russia border. I immediately thought: that’s the perfect place for a story.”

The series is, of course, a work of fiction. However, it is bathed in inspiration from real events. “I went through all the newspapers, from short mentions to full articles, covering everything from the 1880s up to the early 2000s. I actually picked out a few and posted them on my Instagram,” he said. “There were murders, missing people, and a lot of military threats—everyone on the islands was considered a spy.”

The film adaptation, which was announced by The Hollywood Reporter, is made by producer Jason Berman’s A/Vantage Pictures, as well as Kudrański and Jon Levin’s Sustainable Imagination. Berman released Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest last year, while Jon Levin is in the Oscar race with the doc short All the Empty Rooms.

Naturally, this adaptation is still in very early days of development. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest updates. In the meantime, the complete No Man’s Land graphic novel is available for pre-order here.
