‘That Texas Blood’ Returning for New Arc This Summer

Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips’ bestselling neo-noir western That Texas Blood is returning for an all-new story arc this June.

In recent years, Image Comics has been the home to some of the greatest western-themed comics out there. From East of West to Pulp and, of course, That Texas Blood — their catalog is pretty immense. The latter is officially returning this June.  The first arc of That Texas Blood concluded in December 2022 with issue #20. The series then went on hiatus, but the team still pumped out a six-issue prequel miniseries titled The Enfield Gang Massacre, which was set roughly 150 years before the events of the main series.

In In That Texas Blood #21, Sheriff Joe Bob Coates and Deputy Wilson Hart are called to the Allison Ranch—the largest and richest ranch in the United States—where family grievances are blooming into full-blown war. The new arc contains connections to previous stories, but is also cited as a perfect jumping-on point for new readers. If readers aren’t familiar with Ambrose County, the series has already been collected into trade paperback editions.

In addition to the launch of the upcoming arc, publisher Image Comics will also release a special Facsimile edition of issue #1 in newsprint (a format that has become much sought after of late).

“Well… we’re back! Joe Bob returns, this time for a story set in 2003 that we like to call ‘Hell Comes to Allison Ranch.’ It’s our most action-packed story arc yet with strong thematic links to two of our previous, fan-favorite outings—That Texas Blood volume one and The Enfield Gang Massacre,” Condon announced in a statement. “While this new arc has some connections to our past stories, it’s also a great place for readers unfamiliar with Ambrose County or its inhabitants to jump on, and Jacob and I are excited to bring some new collaborators along with us, too. We are so excited to be adding letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou and designer Michael Tivey to the That Texas Blood ranks. With the team we have assembled on this book, and the story we have to tell, I think this may just be the best That Texas Blood story yet.”

“Joe Bob’s back and it feels so good! Coming back to That Texas Blood feels like coming home to us and we’ve missed it after so long away. We return with a brand new story arc, ‘Hell Comes To Allison Ranch.’ A heist gone wrong on the biggest ranch in the US on the night of the invasion of Iraq. This story is the perfect jumping on point for new readers and a warm welcome back for the regulars. So slip on your favourite pair of jeans, grab a can of Doyers and settle in. It’s gonna be one hell of a ride.”
