When is the Animated ‘Batman: Knightfall’ Adaptation Releasing?

Here’s everything we know about Warner Bros. Animation and DC’s upcoming, multi-part Batman: Knightfall adaptation.

DC has had a lot of success with multi-part animated movies in recent years — look no further than Watchmen, which released in two parts in 2024. Other esteemed DC animated movies include Batman: Death in the Family, Batman: The Killing Joke, and Batman: Under the Red Hood. Up next for feature animated treatment is legendary Batman story arc Knightfall, which is set for release in 2026 (although no specific release date has been announced).

During New York Comic-Con, specifically at the end of the Warner Bros. Animation panel, they and DC announced that they were producing a multi-part animated film of legendary 1990s Batman story arc Knightfall. The adaptation will mark the first-ever time that Knightfall has been brought to screens. It was previously adapted into a fan-favorite BBC audio drama, although the full recording is difficult to come by nowadays.

The announcement of the Knightfall animated adaptation was made in October 2025, and updates have been relatively quiet ever since. The project falls under DC’s Elseworlds imprint and will cover the fan-favorite 1993–1994 event, which saw Bane break Batman’s back and Jean-Paul Valley taking the mantle of the Caped Crusader. The comic series was created by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent. We’re still awaiting official confirmation on whether it’ll cover the entirety of Knightfall, Knightquest, and KnightsEnd — although it seems a given.

The official logline for the adaptation reads: “When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”

The project comes from an all-star creative team, headlined by Jeff Wamester (Justice League: Warworld) and Jeremy Adams (Supernatural). Also involved as executive producers are Sam Register and Michael Uslan. Both Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau are producing, and Rick Morales is down as a supervising producer.

The first movie in the multi-part series is Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall. DC and Warner Bros. Animation has not announced a release date yet. We would expect a release date to come later this year, possibly during the Fall season. As always, we’ll keep you posted on all the latest updates. Are you excited for Batman: Knightfall?
