Rumor: Disney Could Release ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Earlier Than Expected

According to a recent report from an industry scooper, Disney is contemplating moving the release of Avengers: Doomsday one week earlier to avoid clashing with Dune: Part 3

December 2026 is all set up to be a monumentally big month for geeks. Of course, there’s the all-new Harry Potter adaptation arriving on our TV screens. And for movies, there’s the cinematic event that’s since become known as Dunesday; the co-release of Dune: Part 3 and Avengers: Doomsday on December 18. However, if recent rumours are to be believed, Dunesday could be over.

Avengers: Doomsday is the first ensemble Avengers movie since Endgame in 2019, and Marvel Studios is pulling out all the stops to make it a big event. We already know that a gluttony of heroes will be present. There’s Thor, Captain America (Sam Wilson), Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, Black Panther (Shuri), Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange, Loki, and Deadpool. Numerous X-Men will also appear, including Professor X, Magneto, and Beast/ Plus, Robert Downey Jr. returns to the franchise, but this time as Doctor Doom. We expect many, many more appearances to take place as well.

According to a report from industry scooper and insider John Campea, Disney is planning to move the release of Doomsday up by a week to December 11. This move makes a lot of sense. It would avoid a clash with competition in Dune. It would also see Doomsday gain access to IMAX screens for one week, given that Dune: Part II has a lucrative exclusive three-week IMAX release window. All in all, the idea of bringing Doomsday forward a week makes a whole lot of sense.

In his report, Campea said he spoke to “in exhibitor relations,” which is where he caught wind of the news. He added that such discussions are “non-commital,” essentially meaning that nothing has been agreed yet. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest updates.
