In Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiminez’ Batman #12, a “gift from beyond the grave” of Alfred Pennyworth will arrive in the form of a woman who will assume Alfred’s butler mantle.
Only recently we published a big article about why Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez’ Batman #1 is one of DC’s most important re-launches in years. Especially in an era where Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman is taking over. And when you compound all of the new Bat-content — many of which take very different angles on Gotham and Batman lore — it’s easily one of the best times to be a Batman fan. And that isn’t just in comics, it extends to wider media too, look no further than the big screen, which will see Robert Pattinson’s The Batman return in 2027 as well as an all-new caped crusader within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU.
In Fraction and Jiminez’ upcoming Batman #12, which continues the fresh beginning for the caped crusader, we’re about to see a new arrival in the Bat-family. As revealed from two covers — one from Jiménez and one from Dustin Nguyen — we’re about to see a lady enter the bat-cave, presumably to take on butler services. She’s described as a “gift from beyond the grave” of Alfred Pennyworth and a “brilliant new ally to the Bat-Family” when they’re in their strongest need. Currently, we don’t know whether she is related to Alfred — but it’s clear that she shares the same profession. She’s young and blonde, and she is well-suited like Alfred.
There’s no confirmation on who she is, but suggestions include her being an updated version of Daphne Pennyworth or Julia Pennyworth/Remarque.
