After the success of DC’s Compact Comics line, the publisher is pushing out a new line of compacts in 2027, aimed at younger readers.
DC Comics has made all the right moves in recent years, and one of the publisher’s biggest successes is their ‘Compact Comics’ line, which re-introduces old, iconic stories to readers through small, readable, complete editions. Some of the most popular DC Compact Comics include Scott Snyder’s Batman: Court of Owls saga and even Alan Moore’s seminal works Watchmen and V for Vendetta. These editions are printed regularly and sometimes notably lack the beauty of glossy paper. Plus given their smaller size, text can often appear tiny. But these drawbacks are largely negligible compared to the benefits these editions offer. It’s one of the most cost-effective ways to read comics.
Given the immense success of the Compact Comics line, DC is continuing to re-package iconic stories into them. There’s a stellar lineup of compact editions coming throughout 2026 (as well as bundled ‘Ultimate’ editions later this year). The newly-announced line of compacts comes in the form of DC Compact Comic Adventures, aimed at young comic book readers. It re-packages complete tales that are perfect for young readers; they’re entry-level stories, each serving as perfect gateways for their titular characters.
The compacts come in different forms, for different age groups. Let’s take a tour:
DC’s Early Reader Books (Ages 5–7)
- Supergirl’s Zoo-per Heroes: Scent of Justice
DC’s Middle Grade Books (Ages 8–12)
- Green Lantern: Destiny
- Princesses of the DC Universe
DC’s Young Adult Books (Ages 13–17)
- The Manifestations of Bobby Park
- Gotham Academy: First Year
DC’s All Ages Adventures (Ages 8–12 and up)
- Batman: The Dark Knight
- Superman: Man of Tomorrow
- Justice League: Heroes United
- Teen Titans Go!: Truth, Justice, Pizza
The move to publish compacts aimed at younger readers further emphasises DC’s commitment to keeping iconic stories on the forefront of comic stories. The compact line has been an unprecedented success since its launch; nowadays they’re a staple on shelves.
The DC Compact Comic Adventures line for younger readers launches in 2027.
