‘The Walking Dead’ Creator Robert Kirkman Wants Clementine to Return
Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead comics, has cited Clementine as a key character he’d like to see the franchise explore further in the future.
Despite the main series ending in 2022, The Walking Dead continues to grow and expand through sequel spinoff projects, notably The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City. The latter, Dead City, is returning for its third season, which we loved. As for what lies in the future of the franchise, we’ll have to wait and see, but AMC doesn’t look to be wanting to end things anytime soon. Meanwhile, Robert Kirkman, the creator of the comics and the co-creator and executive producer of AMC’s TV universe, continues to ponder possible avenues of where the franchise could head next.
Over the years, Robert Kirkman has pondered myriad things that he’d like to see. For instance, he’s expressed interest in a thorough animated adaptation of his comics, and even wanted to see the TV series kill off Daryl Dixon. He’s a man of big ideas, and he is always coming up with more as the Walking Dead Universe continues to grow at AMC. As for what he’d like to see next, Kirkman recently revealed to Collider that a return of Clementine, the main character in Telltale’s beloved The Walking Dead video game. In what capacity her return might be, we don’t know. But when Kirkman speaks, we listen.
“Yeah. For sure. Just for example, off the top of my head, Clementine from the game,” he said of a corner of the franchise he’d like to see get explored. “There’s so much more that can be done with that character. There’s definitely a lot of room in that universe to tell more stories, and AMC seems to be continuing forever, so we’ll see. We’ll see how things go.”
AMC has never featured Clementine in the Walking Dead TV Universe. She was first introduced in the series of Telltale games, first serving as a non-playable character before becoming the game’s central protagonist, and featuring heavily in the New Frontier spinoff. After the conclusion of the Telltale series, Clementine went on to be explored in Tillie Walden’s spinoff graphic novels. As for further appearances, she’s yet to be further explored. Despite rumors, she’s never made her way to the TV universe, with exists in a different continuity to the games, which take place within the comic book timeline.
