DC Announces New Compact Comics & DC Finest Titles Coming in 2027

DC is kicking of 2027 with some big new releases in its line of DC Finest and Compact Comics lines. Here’s what’s in store.
DC Comics has been smashing it out of the park in the collected editions market in recent years, thanks mainly to their Compact Comics line, giving readers a cheap and accessible gateway into the publisher’s most esteemed titles and storylines. The same success goes for the DC Finest paperbacks, which began hitting shelves in 2024. Now, DC has announced four more editions kicking off 2027.
So far, the Compact Comics line has seen a few Vertigo titles get bound together in the format, notably Y the Last Man and V for Vendetta. Next up is Garth Ennis’ fan-favorite Preacher and Brian Azarello’s 100 Bullets. These titles continue the trend of Vertigo titles getting Compact Comics — and who’s complaining? Beyond that, DC has announced two more DC Finest titles: Romance: Escape From Loneliness and Batgirl: Silent Knight. Below is each new title on the way, along with release dates and their official descriptions.
New Compact Comics:
Preacher: Gone to Texas
Coming on: January 5
Description: At first glance, the Reverend Jesse Custer doesn’t look like anyone special—just another small-town minister slowly losing his flock and his faith. But he’s about to come face-to-face with proof that God does indeed exist. Merging with a bizarre spiritual force called Genesis, Jesse now possesses the power of “the Word,” an ability to make people obey whatever he utters. He begins a violent and riotous journey across the country in search of answers from the elusive deity. But those answers are going to be hard-won—especially considering what Heaven has sent to stop him.
This compact volume is the beginning of the Preacher saga, one of the most celebrated comics titles of the late 1990s. Created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, this modern American epic of life, death, love, and redemption is also packed with sex, booze, blood, and bullets—not to mention angels, demons, God, vampires, and deviants of all stripes—making for one of the most viscerally appealing tales ever to see four-color print.
Collects Preacher #1-7.
100 Bullets
Coming on: January 5
Description: If a stranger offered you the chance to get away with murder…would you take it?
In this dark and intriguing DC Compact Comics Edition, the mysterious Agent Graves approaches ordinary citizens and gives them an opportunity to exact revenge on a person who has wronged them. Offering his clients an attaché case containing proof of the deed and a gun, he guarantees them full immunity for all of their actions, including murder. In these opening chapters, Dizzy Cordova, a Latina gangbanger who has just finished a prison sentence, is given the chance to avenge her family’s murders, and a downtrodden bartender receives the opportunity to exact revenge against the woman who ruined his life.
Collecting the first five issues of the senses-shattering 100 Bullets series and a gripping short story from Vertigo: Winter’s Edge, 100 Bullets: First Shot, Last Call is a provocative tale that’s one part hard-boiled crime story and one part paranoid espionage thriller, all served in a highball with a unique twist—shaken, not stirred!
New DC Finest titles:

Remorselessly trained by her mercenary father to be the ultimate human weapon, Cassandra cannot speak or write, but her uncanny ability to read body language allows her to take down opponents three times her size without batting an eye.
But when she rebels against her programming on the lawless streets of No Man’s Land-era Gotham City, the Dark Knight Detective sees a possible successor to the role of Batgirl. Under the tutelage of the original Batgirl, Barbara Gordon, Cassandra must now reinvent herself as a protector instead of a predator—and prove to both her newfound family and herself that even someone who was born to kill can be worthy to take up the cowl of a legend!
