Former ‘Game of Thrones’ Cinematographer Joins the DCU’s ‘Man of Tomorrow’

Former Game of Thrones and Shogun cinematographer Sam McCurdy will bring his award-winning expertise to the DCU’s Man of Tomorrow

Following on from the success of Superman 2025, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe will continue to build momentum into 2026 with an all new Supergirl movie, marking the return of Milly Alcock in the titular role. As for when fans can expect the next Superman movie, we’ll have to wait until Man of Tomorrow — currently slated to release in 2027.

Plot details on Man of Tomorrow are pretty scarce at the moment. There are apparently hints in Peacemaker season 2 that will lead into the plot of Man of Tomorrow. Moreover, the flick will see both Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hault) on the same side, kinda. It tackles the whole ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ tope, seeing them forced to work together against a much greater threat than either could face alone. This threat could be Brainiac, although nothing is confirmed.

One interesting piece of news that we can confirm, however, is that the upcoming movie has found an esteemed cinematographer in the form of Sam McCurdy. While you might not know him by name, you’ll more than likely be aware of his top tier work; look no further than Game of Thrones and Shogun. He’s also worked with James Gunn before on season 1 of Peacemaker.

McCurdy’s work has gained immense industry recognition over the years, with him taking home a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for his work on FX series Shōgun — more specifically the episode “Crimson Sky”. He also received a nomination for his work on Game of Thrones (back when the HBO fantasy swept the Emmys every year).

Having such a big name attached to Man of Tomorrow sparks a strong start in early development of the movie. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest updates.
