Despite the cast of Avengers: Doomsday overflowing with heroes, a recent report suggests that there’s room for one actor to play “multiple characters.”
It seems like every other day that another actor has been cast in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday — it’s become a meme at this point. With such a gluttony of characters, from our original Avengers team, to the New Avengers, to the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and beyond, the cast of Doomsday is chock-full. And the movie’s central villain is Doctor Doom, played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. in his return to the franchise after playing Tony Stark for over a decade until Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
We’ve already seen a Captain America teaser, confirming the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. More recently was an X-Men focused teaser, showcasing the return of Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and James Marsden as Cyclops.
Additionally, according to a recent report from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who’s got a long-standing track record of accuracy, Hayley Atwell will be playing “multiple characters” in Doomsday. The report is pretty vague. Of course, Atwell has played Peggy Carter in the franchise, on and off, for 15 years. Her first appearance came in Captain America: The First Avenger, and she most recently voiced Captain Carter in the What If…? series.
The most likely outcome is that Atwell plays the version of Peggy Carter who’s with Steve Rogers back in time, as we saw at the end of Endgame. Plus, she’s also portraying Captain Carter, as seen in What If…?. Overall, that would make the most success; she’s bound to play a big role given that Steve Rogers is heavily involved. But of course, this is Doomsday, and at the moment it feels like most anything is possible.
