Greg Pak and Carlo Pagulayan are returning to Planet Hulk for a special one-shot marking the 20th anniversary of their beloved Planet Hulk saga.
Planet Hulk not only one of the Hulk’s best storylines, but for many it holds a key place in the illustrious history of Marvel Comics. First published almost two decades ago, between 2006 to 2007, the story follows Hulk as he is ostracised by the Avengers and sent to the oppressive, war-ravaged planet Sakaar. Forced to fight as a gladiator, Hulk makes a name for himself on Sakaar, ultimately leading a rebellion against the planet’s leader; the Red King.
The Planet Hulk saga continued with World War Hulk. The storyline also inspired the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Thor: Ragnarok (2017), in which Hulk is found as a gladiator on Sakaar.
Now, to commemorate the storyline’s 20th-anniversary, both Greg Pak and Carlo Pagulayan are inviting readers to Return to Planet Hulk. The official synopsis reads:
After escaping the Red King’s deadly arena, Hulk faces ferocious monsters and smashes his way through malicious machines and wild robotic terrors in one of his most important battles of survival on the war-torn planet of Sakaar! Two possible destinies are at stake! The SAKAARSON, savior of the planet, or the WORLDBREAKER, the legendary destroyer! Will his rage only fuel the chaos of this alien world?
“Working on Planet Hulk remains one of the greatest joys of my comics career, and I’m enormously grateful for the love so many readers have shared for the storyline over the years,” Pak said. “This 20th anniversary special is a celebration and a huge thank you to everyone — and a chance to take one more journey into the dark heart of the Green Scar and add to the wild mythos of Sakaar. It’s also a huge pleasure to be working with Carlo Pagulayan and Mark Paniccia again — it’s like we never left off, and it feels like home.”

Return to Planet Hulk releases on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Will you be picking it up?
