Spider-Noir showrunner Oren Uziel reveals that several unannounced Spider-Man variant projects are currently in development, opening up a “whole new world” of opportunity.

Prime Video’s Spider-Noir hits screens in May. Starring Nicolas Cage, it brings a whole new, noir and gritty twist to the traditional Spider-Man stories we’re used to. Cage voiced Spider-Noir in the animated Spider-Verse movies, becoming a fan-favorite star in the process. The upcoming live-action series consists of eight episodes, taking place in the 1930s-era New York, following Ben Reilly, an older, down-on-his-luck private investigator who’s the city’s only protector.

Of course, there’s a whole lot of Spider-Man variants out there, not least the myriad shown within the animated Spider-Verse movies. Spider-Punk? Spider-Gwen? The list goes on. And according to Spider-Noir showrunner Oren Uziel, there’s plenty of scope and potential for further spinoffs to take place. In fact, he reveals that other projects are indeed in the works. “I’m focused on Spider-Noir, but I know there are others in the works,” he told SFX Magazine.

Naturally, Uziel remains coy on what the projects entail, but he’s hyped about seeing them come into fruition.  “I’ve talked a bit to the people working on them and I think they are very exciting. They’re following a little bit of that same formula [as Spider-Noir], that same idea of taking a genre and elevating it by putting a Spider-variant into it. It opens up a whole new world, and it’s just an extremely exciting opportunity,” he added.

He’s keen to carve out an entirely new mythos for Spider-Noir. It’s a series that feels wholly novel. “The character in the show is not the same as the character from both the comics and the animated movie,” he explained. “A big part of it was I have seen the high-school story of Peter Parker many times. It’s been done really well and it’s continuing to be done really well. And then Phil and Chris did the Miles Morales version. For me, it was a way to tell our own take.”

No further Spider-Verse spinoff projects have been officially announced, but there’s been rumours circulating that fan-favorite characters Spider-Punk and Spider-Gwen are in the running for potential solo projects. In 2025, Deadline reported that an animated Spider-Punk project was in development at Sony from Daniel Kaluuya & Ajon Singh — but details have since gone quiet.
