The much-anticipated Vampirella relaunch from Christopher Priest and Ergün Gündüz has reached sales of over 84,000 copies at Dynamite Entertainment!
If you ever considered getting into Vampirella, there’s no better time to do it. Published by Dynamite Entertainment, Vampirella #1 (or #676 in the legacy numbering) re-launches the flagship series with The Long Night arc, along with variant covers from Lucio Parrillo, Greg Land, Elias Chatzoudis, Jay Anacleto, Rachel Hollon and Mark Spears.
The upcoming comic was announced back in December 2024 The new arc is set to act as a jumping-on point for new readers, and a refreshed take for long-time fans. With pre-orders rolling in, Dynamite has announced that the reboot has seen more than 84,000 copies sold. The number “includes all orders from fans and retailers through Diamond Comics Distributor, specialty retailers, and creator exclusive variant covers.”
The new arc explores the Daughter of Drakulon’s post-partum depression, while giving readers a glimpse at a cyberpunk-infused apocalyptic future. Dynamite describes the arc as an “intricate tale of motherhood.”
“I think the best kinds of challenges you can toss at a protagonist are the ones they cannot punch through. There’s way too much boring violence being used to resolve conflict in today’s comics,” Priest said of the new arc. “Good writing involves conflict but conflict isn’t always about violence. You put your character in a headlock, in a no-win scenario, ideally in a mess of their own making, and then follow them as they resolve that conflict through their strength of character. Vampirella’s present situation, her being suddenly confounded by the unimaginable impact of motherhood, is the direct cause and effect of the future story and the reason her son, an adult many decades in the future, has returned to warn her.”
