Wait… Thanos is Returning in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’?

Thanos died in Avengers: Endgame, right? Well yes, but unless you’re Uncle Ben, mortality in the Marvel Universe is far from permanent.

At this point, it seems like everyone is returning for Avengers: Doomsday later this year — so much that the whole thing has become a meme. With such a gluttony of characters, from our original Avengers team, to the New Avengers, to the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and beyond, the cast of Doomsday is chock-full. And the movie’s central villain is Doctor Doom, played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. in his return to the franchise after playing Tony Stark for over a decade until Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Hell, even Peggy Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, is reportedly playing “multiple characters” in the movie.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, according to a recent report from serial leaker Daniel Richtman, Thanos (Josh Brolin) will return in Secret Wars, the upcoming sequel to Avengers: Doomsday set to release in December 2027. Richtman has a solid track record of reporting accurate links for Marvel Studios in the past, but so too has he missed the mark on several occasions. This by no means confirms Thanos’ involvement in Secret Wars, but it’s certainly food for thought.

There’s several ways the MCU could bring Thanos back. For instance, look no further than the multiverse, which means anyone can be bought back to our screens. Or he could return in a flashback sequence. There’ve been theories surrounding Thanos’ requisite return for a while now, notably because of his involvement in the Secret Wars  (2015) event written by Jonathan Hickman.

All of this is to say, it’s absolutely possible. Whether it’s a good idea to bring the Mad Titan back to our screens is an altogether different question. We’ll leave further discussion for everyone to ponder in the comments down below!
