‘Absolute Batman’ Artist Nick Dragotta is Prepared to Draw Over 100 Issues

Absolute Batman artist Nick Dragotta is more than prepared to work on upwards of 100 issues alongside Scott Snyder, “if they let him.”

DC’s Absolute Batman is the most popular ongoing comic in the world right now. After beginning in 2024, the series has just released its 18th issue, and it still feels like we’re just getting started. There’s still so many villains to get the ‘Absolute’ treatment. After the Absolute Wonder Woman crossover, there’s plenty more team-ups to come. All in all, the Absolute Universe is on top of the world — and that’s more than reflected in monthly comic sales.

Absolute Batman has already told a gluttony of stories: issues #1-6 told The Zoo storyline; #7-8 was Absolute Zero; #9-14 was Abomination; #15 was the Joker Special; #16 is the second part of the Wonder Woman crossover arc; and #17 and #18 chronicled Poison Ivy and introduced the Court of Owls.

Beyond that, no conclusion has been announced, but during an Ask Me Anything session on Substack in 2025, Snyder revealed that he and Dragotta have already mapped out around 35-40 issues for the series. What’s more, Snyder has a big endgame plan in mind:  “We know the big final chapter of it.”

Absolute Batman is going from strength to strength. Looking ahead to the upcoming Scarecrow arc, Snyder says it will “completely transform” the series, adding: “By the end, something really huge happens that I think will get you guys super excited.”

Most recently, Dragotta revealed that he’s totally on the ride for over 100 issues — that is, if he’s allowed to do so. “For me, I’m in it,” he said, per Bleeding Cool. “We’re just about midway through the second act, with a big finale to come. I just want to keep it interesting, react to the absurdity of the world we currently live in, and reflect the world in a Batman comic that anyone can follow. Batman AF.”

Dragotta has taken a short hiatus from Absolute Batman for a couple of issues, while guest artist Eric Canete has drawn for the Absolute Poison Ivy storyline, doing a commendable job, we might add. Dragotta returns to the series for issue #19, which introduces Absolute Scarecrow (who looks particularly terrifying).

The Absolute Universe can do nothing wrong at the moment. If Snyder and Dragotta can keep the momentum up for over 100 issues, who says no?
