‘Vampirella’ Getting a Compact Comics Collection Edition

Dynamite Entertainment continues to double down on compact comics editions with Vampirella: Kurt Busiek Collection Compact Edition — releasing this October. 

Thanks to DC, compact comic book paperbacks are all the rage nowadays. These small editions, which usually come in 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches, make for perfect entry points. They collect entire storylines in one place, and they come about as cheap as you get collected editions of comics. Thanks to all of this, they’ve become a mightily lucrative business, consistently performing among the best-selling graphic novels lists, and myriad publishers are getting in on the act.

Following the massive success of DC’s Compact Comics line, other publishers are following suit. For instance, look no further than BOOM! Studios‘ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Jem and the Holograms, and My Little Pony compact editions; Oni Press’ trim sized Archie, Rick and Morty, Adventure Time; and so on. Publisher Dynamite Entertainment has already dabbled with compact editions, most notably with Pathfinder: Dark Waters Rising (June 2026), written by Jim Zub with art by Andrew Huerta. The title contains 224 pages collecting the original 6-issue 2012 run plus a bonus short story, and 30 pages of additional material.

Next up in Dynamite’s run of compact editions is Vampirella: Kurt Busiek Collection Compact Edition. The edition is Dynamite’s biggest Compact book, and it features 480 pages for just $9.99. Presented at 5.5 by 8.5 inches, the book includes the classic 1991 Vampirella miniseries known as “Morning in America,” the Summer Nights special, and then the first four issues of the following series featuring “Dracula War.”

These comics were originally published by Harris Comics, prior to the Dynamite era for the character. Their tenure with the character and transition from the original Warren Publishing chronicles started here in these tales. In addition to superstar writer Kurt Busiek (Marvels, Avengers) driving this reinvention, he’s joined by the earliest works of longtime Vampi scribe Tom Sniegoski, as well as artists Louis La Chance, Louis Small Jr., Dave Cockrum, James Fry, Richard Howell, and more.
