‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Complete Trailer Breakdown: Everything You Missed
The Avengers: Doomsday trailer is finally here, folks! Here’s our complete breakdown, including all the best bits and all the brief shots you may have missed.
The long-awaited trailer for the highly anticipated MCU cinematic event, Avengers: Doomsday, has finally been released to the public after being showcased to attendees at the 2026 CinemaCon MCU panel in April. This reveal aims to ignite excitement and anticipation among fans eager to see more.
The trailer showcases a lot of stakes and characters we’re all very familiar with, alongside characters we’ve never seen interact, which adds to the thrill of this ambitious film. I am going to break down, to the best of my ability, what is seen in the trailer and speculate where the story is heading.
Complete trailer breakdown
In the first active scene of the trailer, we are met with Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Mansion, witnessing an Incursion (which was thoroughly explained in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness by Earth-838’s Mr Fantastic, played by John Krasinski). There are several theories about this particular Incursion and whether the X-Men may be the cause, which would be a very interesting concept to explore, as they are known to protect all forms of life. Still, again, this is an all-new variation of the X-Men that we know compared to the 2000s version we all grew up with, so their methods may be unorthodox, but we shall see!
Next, we are offered our official first look at Robert Downey Jr returning to the MCU, not as the iconic hero Iron Man, but as the ultimate Marvel villain, Doctor Doom, aka Victor Von Doom. There have been many leaked images of Doom’s look for this film, and while the design is incredible and while it very much resembles his comic book design, the live-action suit incorporates a medieval element alongside this amazing first look.
We are also welcomed with the first taste of how Doom will sound. Downey has really taken care and consideration in how Doom will sound, as he is from a country where English isn’t his first language and has a strong accent. This was a major concern for fans when the casting was announced at San Diego Comic Con in 2024: how this Doom would be portrayed. I’m happy to know that he will indeed have an accent and that his heritage will play a big part in his story.
“Something’s coming. Something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.” – Doctor Doom.
The words Doom speaks are very harrowing, as they signify that he is very self-righteous and believes that the only thing we can do is let this destruction take its course, since there is no stopping what is to come.
Next, we see Thor gathering the heroes of Earth 616: The New Avengers, led by Yelena Belova, and the other Avengers team, led by Sam Wilson, in the New Avengers watchtower. We were teased in the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts* with a rivalry between the two teams over their names and who is and isn’t the real Avengers team, which I’m intrigued to see how it impacts both teams and their ability to complete the mission. We also see the Fantastic Four of Earth 828, which is extremely exciting to see after decades of dreaming for this to happen.
Alongside this scene playing out, we hear Thor’s words about the danger looming over the heroes; he sounds absolutely frightened, and, as stated, he’s never seemed so threatened by a threat like this before, which makes this version of Doctor Doom seem more terrifying than ever. This heightens the feeling of danger and stakes for the audience, making the threat more compelling.
“I’ve fought with many warriors in my time. They were far stronger than all of us put together, and they died. They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one.” – Thor.
It also states that Thor and Doom have already encountered each other, that Thor survived, and that he came to warn the heroes of all known Earths.
We are then given a very brief glimpse of Black Panther and the Wakandans confronting Namor and the Talokans. This quick glimpse offers a brand-new look at both civilisations. We see Namor in a very different attire from when we first met him in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. We see him fully clothed in a very dark-coloured suit that resembles his more modern-day comic book look, which is considered a very favoured design by comic readers, and the detailing is exceptional.
Next, we see Shuri wearing a suit similar to the one we first saw her in, with new blue accents to break up colours and create contrast. I am extremely curious to see why they are fighting each other again after the aftermath of Wakanda Forever. They reached a peace settlement, and both civilisations will live in harmony. So if the peace treaty has been broken, then it must be for a dire reason.
To our excitement, we are blessed with our first clear look at Cyclops, leader of the X-Men on Earth 10005, and returning to the role, James Marsden, whom we last saw in X-Men: Days of Future Past. For well over two decades, comic readers of the X-Men have felt nothing but upset for how the Fox movies handled the portrayal of Cyclops, as he is a beloved character in the comics and in animated projects, and to see him being redeemed in this film, by not only having James returning to the role, but also to wear a comic accurate costume, specifically, the Jim Lee design from the 1990s, which is the definitive look for the character and to see it be brought into live action, is a real emotional feast for the eyes. Based on this scene, it looks like he’s trying to de-escalate the situation, which is so like him, as he believes in resolving issues before taking action, like any great leader would.
Out of nowhere, we are met with a very intense and exciting fight scene between Gambit, who we last saw in Deadpool & Wolverine and is also rumoured to be the same version from that film. After a long five-year hiatus, we are finally reunited with a very beloved character, the master of martial arts himself, Shang-Chi, who we last saw in his major hit debut film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This clash is very exciting to see, as it is something we’d only expect to see in the comics or even in fan art online, and to see it come to life is exhilarating. It is going to be very exciting to see how these two use their skill sets to take on each other, and from the looks of it, they’re equally matched!
Speaking of reunions, we are also reunited with a long-loved character of the MCU, the former God of Mischief, Loki, now known as the God of Stories! We last saw Loki in the Season 2 finale of his own Disney+ show, with an emotional ending in which he is finally burdened with a glorious purpose: he saves the Multiverse. He becomes the core protector of all existing timelines. In this scene, we see him wearing his TVA uniform, not the final look we last saw him in, and he is inside a house. This is clearly Steve Rogers’s house, as seen in the very first teaser of the film in December 2025. It appears that Steve’s return and involvement are far more severe than we thought, and with all this being acknowledged, it makes clear sense why Loki has returned. Hopefully, he will have a major part in this film and won’t remain confined to the throne of the Multiverse.
We are later greeted by an exchange between the Wakandans and a mix of heroes from the opposing Avengers teams, plus two members of the Fantastic Four: The Thing, The Invisible Woman, The White Wolf, Falcon, and Ghost. This scene was previously teased in the fourth teaser that Marvel Studios released in early January of this year. The humorous exchange was between M’Baku, the newly crowned king of Wakanda and Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, from Earth 828. Upon further analysis, both parties seem to be surrounded by a circular border of an oceanic tidal wave, most likely crafted by Namor and his people, the Talokans. The reason for this is unclear to me, but it’s a visually stunning concept.
In this exciting clash of powerful women, we are met with Yelena, who seems to be scoping out the X Mansion alongside Mr Fantastic, Shang-Chi, Captain America and H.E.R.B.I.E, who seems to have an updated and more futuristic look compared to his first design. It’s nice that he got an upgrade (God bless and protect H.E.R.B.I.E).
Next, we are ambushed by the devious X-Men anti-hero, Mystique, who quickly grabs one of Yelena’s batons and shapeshifts into Yelena herself. This creative decision is extremely exciting as Yelena, from who we got to know more about in Thunderbolts*, has a lot of internal struggles and to witness her physically fight with ‘herself’ in this manner, is going to be very tormenting to her, but then again, Mystique is known for tormenting her opponents with her powers of shape shifting, it’s what gives her the upper hand in combat, and to have these two badass female characters fight it out, it’s going to be exhilarating to see how their styles of hand to hand combat contrast with each other as I believe them to be equally matched.
We are then gifted with a scene between Professor X and Magneto (our two very definitely platonic mutant friends/work colleagues). Seeing Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen as their respective characters is always exciting, and seeing them come back one last time to save the day is fun. I hope they confess their love for each other because it’s been a slow burn for over 25 years now.
Of all the scenes in the trailer, this has piqued my interest. Why does Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, look so defeated? Why is he shrouding, who I presume to be his sister, Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman, or even his nephew, Franklin Richards, who is confirmed to play a humongous role in this film, due to his possession of the Power Cosmic, which was teased in the aftermath of the Galactus battle in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The placement of this shot is intended to keep us guessing and worried for the two characters. We will have to wait and see what torments him so.
We then see quick shots of action scenes to build tension and anticipation, and they indeed succeed!
One of these quick shots includes Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, inside the X Mansion, looking ready for battle! Whoever he is fighting, he looks scared of, hopefully it isn’t Magneto, because we all know what Sam’s shield is made of…
We next see Gambit laying down a forceful power move against the heroes of Earth 616 and 828 while defending the X-Men. I guess Gambit really did make a name for himself in the end.
We then see one of my favourite shots of the entire trailer, the cataclysmic outburst of Cyclops’s concussive optic blast (not heat blasts, concussive! Common misconception). This shot first appeared in the third teaser Marvel Studios released in late December 2025. That particular scene sparked a global reaction, as it redems the character in a way we’ve all been impatiently waiting for.
Next, we are presented with two scenes that appear to be set in the same location: two quick glimpses of Sue Storm and Namor. Now, we comic readers are aware of their history in the comics, as Namor falls deeply in love with Sue, and bear in mind, Sue is happily married to Reed Richards, aka, Mr Fantastic, and the feeling isn’t reciprocated from her end, but seeing these two scenes clipped together does make you think whether the film will actually go down that route. This scene also indicates that they are working together, as Sue is capable of building force fields, and, with the oceanic tidal wave border I spoke of earlier, it’s very clear that Namor is the cause, as he is seen flying in circles around a landmass. These two scenes spark curiosity as to why this border needs to be put in place; only time will tell.
We are then blessed with the climactic battle scene between Thor and Doctor Doom. While we thought Thor would do some major damage to Doom, oh dear, were we extremely wrong! We see Doom effortlessly block the attack from Thor and Stormbreaker with two fingers! This scene has people talking online, asking questions such as, just how powerful is Doctor Doom if he’s able to block attacks from a literal god ever so easily? This scene montage showcases just how powerful Doom really is. Compared to our previous Avengers big bad, Thanos, the Mad Titan, although he was all-powerful with the Infinity Gauntlet, he was still vulnerable in some respects. This isn’t the case with Doom; his power is portrayed as impenetrable, which is why he is considered the ultimate villain in Marvel Comics history.
Finally, we are left with this nostalgic reunion between Thor and Steve Rogers aboard what appears to be the Fantastic Four’s ship, which was last seen entering Earth 616’s universe in the Thunderbolts*post-credits scene. Due to Thor’s startled reaction, he tests Steve’s identity by having him summon Mjölnir to him, and to no surprise, it goes straight to him, further proving that this is the Steve Rogers that we’ve all grown up and loved.
Sporting a brand-new look, Steve is seen with long hair and a beard, very similar to those of his best friend and ally, Bucky Barnes. There have been mixed reactions to Steve’s new look, as he appears to be dressed in extremely casual clothing, sporting a black jacket, black t-shirt, khaki trousers, and brown boots. While I understand the reaction and opinions, people have seemed to forget that he passed the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, so he has no reason to wear his old uniform. I would’ve expected him to wear some armour at least. Mjölnir is good enough to protect him, but will he hold his own against Doctor Doom?
