First Look at Franklin Jonas & Curt Pires’ upcoming Lost Fantasy spin-off ‘Fireborn’

Co-creators Curt Pires, singer/songwriter Franklin Jonas, and rising star artist Patrick Mulholland debut Fireborn in April 2026, a new tale set in the same world of the beloved Lost Fantasy series.

When it debuted in 2025, Image Comics series Lost Fantasy became an instant hit. The series is a dream come true for fans of retro gaming and Final Fantasy. From acclaimed writer Curt Pires and superstar artist Luca Casalanguida, the comic is an urban fantasy, very much taking inspiration from the Final Fantasy franchise (look no further than the sword). It also holds stark similarities to other Image works, most notably Something is Killing the Children — thanks mostly to the aspect of monster-killing horror.

Up next is an all-new spinoff series. Titled Fireborn, it follows Aaron Hillburg who is just another rich-kid failson ghosting his responsibilities, hopping rooftops, and hating his billionaire father in peace… until a mysterious floating dragon egg bonds to him and ignites a hidden lineage of ancient magic inside his body.

Now every violent outlaw wizard, biker cultist, and supernatural warlord between New York City and The World Beneath is hunting him—and they’ll burn the world down to pry the egg from his corpse.

“Curt Pires is an impressive talent who has been threatening to take over the comics world since we first worked with him on Olympia and Indigo Children, and the equally talented and boundlessly enthusiastic Franklin Jonas has proven to be the perfect partner for him on this expansion of his Lost Fantasyuniverse,” said Eric Stephenson, Publisher & Chief Creative Officer at Image Comics. “In a time when comics needs big new ideas more than ever, it’s thrilling to watch them deliver something this cool!”
