The series was always cited for an adaptation, and it is finally getting its shot at Amazon MGM Studios with an animated series, brought to screens by Netflix’s Former One Piece showrunner Steven Maeda.
The official logline for Monstress reads: “Set in an Asian-inspired fantasy world, ‘Monstress’ tells the story of a young woman with a literal monster living inside of her. When the world turns us into monsters, ‘Monstress’ asks how can we overcome our monstrosities?”
Per Variety, Maeda will write and executive produce the series alongside Tiffany Greshler One Piece, Underground, Helix). Both Maeda and Greshler will serve as co-showrunners. Also involved as executive producers are Jason Brown, Ryan Stayton (Hivemind), Liu and Takeda.
This project is still in very early days of development, so we don’t have too many details yet. This is the second comic book project to picked up for an animated adaptation in the last few days, with Brian Michael Bendis’ best-selling superhero series Powers also in the works at Netflix.
