Hugh Jackman Plays Coy Over ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Return: “Dooms-What?”

Hugh Jackman is being deliberately stupid in regard to whether he’s returning as Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday. We’ll take his self-imposed stupidity as a resounding yes

Over the years, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have become well-acquainted with stars playing coy over their characters appearing in upcoming projects. We needn’t direct you anywhere else but Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield played with fans constantly before, ultimately, reviving their respective incarnations of Spider-Man. As we look ahead to Avengers: Doomsday, similar teases are happening again. It can be difficult to confirm who’s actually returning and who isn’t (for your convenience, we’ve compiled the comprehensive confirmed list here).

In short, the confirmed main cast includes much of our original Avengers team (including Steve Rogers and Thor), the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and beyond. And the movie’s central villain is Doctor Doom, played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. in his return to the franchise after playing Tony Stark for over a decade until Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

One long-time Marvel star who’s not confirmed to return for Doomsday (but is heavily rumoured) is Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Of course, Jackman has already made his MCU debut in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) and is expected to make further appearances. He’s not yet confirmed for Doomsday, but it’s very likely. However, if you ask Jackman himself, he’s deliberately ignorant on the subject.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Jackman teased, per ComicBookMovie. “What is it? Dooms-what? Who knows?”

Should Wolverine appear in Doomsday, fans will undoubtedly rejoice. One hope is to see him starring alongside Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. The mere thought of it is enough to have MCU fans dreaming. Whether it actually happens, we’ll have to wait and see.

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theatres on December 18, 2026. In the meantime, you can catch Hugh Jackman’s most recent Wolverine appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is now streaming on Disney+.
