The comic is drawn by Alessandro Oliveri, coloured by Francesca Vivaldi and lettered by Fabio Amelia.

The story takes place in the year 2188, where post-Brexit England now operates as a theme park run by Americans. What”s more, in this new Victorian era London, infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper has returned. 7. Vatican City

From legendary comics writer Mark Millar and artist Per Berg, Vatican City sets up a simple premise. A sudden vampire uprising ushers the world into chaos within a matter of hours. The entire United States is plunged into darkness in one evening. So too is Rome. However, there”s one location that the vampires simply cannot step foot inside; the sacred land of the Vatican.

And so, our protagonist, Guido Cavelti (who originally entered the Vatican in a bid to join the Swiss Guard) joins two thousand tourists and staffers in relative safety behind the walls and ancient, holy relics of Vatican City. All the while, millions of bloodthirsty vampires surround them, prepared to wait for as long as it takes to strike.

We gave issue #1 a hugely positive 4-star review, praising its brutal, exhilarating, and chaotic action set in a unique environment.

6. Who Are the Power Pals?

Written by Duane Murray with art from Ahmed Raafat, Who Are The Power Pals? follows inseparable friends and unfortunate actors Alex Green and Derek Summers, better known as their on-screen superhero counterparts Buzzard and Swallow. However, their extremely brief 1990s TV run with Power Pals went down like a damp squib; it was cancelled after just 3 episodes. But that small taste of fame left them desperate for more, and the middle-aged duo have been ardently trying to get back on the Hollywood train ever since.

This comic tackles a variety of themes and topics, including the price of fame, age, and the social impact and reception of superhero stories. Murray expertly writes the story, spinning together a hilarious narrative with tons of laugh-out-loud moments.

Synthetics is written by J. Michael Straczynski with art from Tony Parker (Mass Effect: Foundation), colours from Carrie Strachan and letters from Steve Dutro. The series takes place on a dying Earth, where dead zones are ever-expanding and humanity is fast moving towards impending doom. Humans take two paths, either vent their anger against futures lost, or get lost in the immersive cyber-void, living in ignorant bliss. There’s only one way mankind can prevail: the development of a new kind of human, fit to survive the hostile new Earth.

After such a brilliant start, we’re super excited to continue reading Synthetics into 2026.

2. Masterminds

When a struggling video game programmer dares to audition for a high-brow secret society in the gaming industry, known as Masterminds, he and a co-worker find themselves entangled in a web of deadly puzzles and games.

The gaming industry is one of the biggest on the planet nowadays, and it’s always growing. So too is the ‘LitRPG’ sub-genre, which was popularised by novels like Ender’s Game and Ready Player One. In Masterminds, written by Zack Kaplan along with Stephen Thompson (artist), Thiago Rocha (colours), and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (letters), the road to success comes through a sadistic gamification of real-life.

In Masterminds, we follow Edward, a struggling and troubled, but undeniably talented video game programmer. He’s forced to endure long hours of programming with little reward. He sees himself as under appreciated in his sector. In order to break free of his oppressive job, he decides to try his luck in auditioning for ‘Masterminds’ — a high-brow, cliquey, secret society that enlists the greatest minds in programming and guarantees them success. However, the audition process is far from conventional. Participants must first prove themselves through playing a number of deadly games.
